State of US National Team

With Davies already out, Gooch rehabbing, Jermaine Jones still rehabbing and has no caps for US National Team, Edu injured and a number of our stars not seeing time in their current club lineup, I do hope that Dempsey's scan reveals his knee injury is not serious.

I have not always been the biggest Dempsey supporter, I do realize that he is one of the few players who can create and score for our team without a set piece. Not exactly the position we would want to be in 6 months out of the World Cup with a group that gives us the opportunity to get out. Here's to Donovan staying healthy in his stay in the EPL.

What's Davies status on ever returning? I hope the Texas boy Demdsey does well!

I saw Algeria play today 0-0 vs Angola boring. Our biggest game will be Slovenia, that's the make or break.

I saw today where Dempsey would not require surgery on his knee. Regardless of your stance on Clint, this is good news for the USMNT. He should be back in time for the WC and hopefully will have a month to get back into decent form.

Losing him in addition to Gooch and Davies would have been a significant blow to our chances in South Africa.

I saw the same with Dempsey. No doubt that I want a healthy Dempsey for South Africa 2010 and I do hope that he is able to not only recover but to gain match conditioning before the World Cup. Did anyone hear the actual diagnosis?

It always sucks when players get hurt before a world cup. I can remember England losing Kevin Keegan right before 82 and Brazil had a less than 100% Zico in 1986. They played, but they might have well as been ghosts.

I hope Dempsey recovers and gets back into game rhythm, because otherwise he'll just be taking up a spot from someone who can make more of a contribution.

BTW, Honduras throttled the US last night. I was not expecting much from the US because of their roster, but Honduras really looked great, even without their expats. I hope for the catrachos sake that they play like that in SA, as opposed to the 8-1-1 defensive BS they trotted out at the Azteca in October. They can get past their group if they step on it a little.

Also, Algeria knocked out the Cote D'Ivoire from the ACN earlier today. They are tenacious bunch, and the US had better not take them lightly.

I'm still not going to hold my breath on him playing, but his recovery is an amazing story either way. It looks like Gooch and Davies will likely be physically fit. Whether or not they get into form by June remains to be seen.

Finally, as an fyi, Donovan scored his first goal today for Everton.
