State of Nadal

Nadal out in quarterfinal round of Aussie. He lost in semis of US open in 09, 4th round at French, and didn't play Wimbledon in 09. His last big victory off clay was the Aussie last year in 09 against Federer in 5 sets. At that time we all thought it was the downfall of Federer and the rise of Nadal. Seems that Federer has reemerged and Nadal's game has dropped off quite a bit. He is stilll very good on clay but his dropping in the rankings on other surfaces.

What is the diifference? He looks much smaller and does not appear to have the physicial strength which separated him from others in 08.

I have been harping on him doing Roids and got guff for it. I read in a Tennis magazine in a Doc's office that Tennis was going to ramp up their testing and methods. Did not read follow up articles.

This was when he was really big and staying healthy, not to mention Federer was injured. Now, as mentioned above, he is noticeably smaller and less muscular and back to being fragile and less than great. The guy is a fraud. A talented fraud but not a great one.

Bye Nadal.

Nadal played the 2008 season under the Olympic drug testing umbrella....so if he was doing roids in '08, he would have been caught then. Nadal's issue since the '09 Aussie Open has been his knees. The lack of healthy wheels is what has caused his demise. Not to mention a healthy Federer...arguably the greatest player of all time.

Well 'roids' aren't always taking year round. You can go off of them and still pass olympic testing later in the year. Certainly he has gotten noticably smaller over the last year. His muscle tone in particular has decreased and he doesn't seem to have that overpowering physical game anymore. 'Roids' as you say can also lead to your body breaking down and that could explain some of the injuries.

I don't know if it is the case but there is definitely something going to have has made him trim down. He isn't a threat to win on any surface other than clay the last year and now he may be out for months. just went everyone thought he was going to be the dominate force in the game for the next 3-4 years he took 2 big steps back and now is sidelined.

And as mentioned above, he is much smaller now. He is not all bulked up and cut like before. When he gets swole up, he wins. When he is left to his own devices he does not.

The dude is not one of the best of all time. He is a fluke who had a decent run with the aid of who knows what. He's good, he's not great.

I guess a standard for what is considered one of the greats would be helpful. I do think that he is a guy that would be top 20 of all time if he was healthy more often.

Tennis is really fun to watch because of the vast differences of playing surfaces for their major events. A player that does well on all surfaces is indeed special.

I would love to play on a clay surface sometime. At least I think I would. I may fall quite a bit.

Maybe he did not. Until he tests positive he is in the clear. Do you agree that he got bigger pretty quick and that it went along with him winning? Well, Federer being injured helped. How can one explain his healthy spurt along with winning to be taken away by getting smaller and injured again?

It is little known, but while he was digging his underwear out of his crack he accidentally strangled his nads. The ensuing hormone problems explain everything.

wasn't there some news of him wanting to trim down to make it easier on his knees? I thought I read that somewhere. or I might be just talking out of my ***

That would make sense but it is not like he was fat or overly big. He got lots of muscle quickly and his injuries went away. He did not have the same trouble when he swelled up. Now that he is "trimmer" he is injured again.

Compare to 08 Wimbledon when he was at his strongest and everybody thought he was going to dominate the game for the next few years.

Take a look at photos 38, 43, 63. Just a huge different in muscle tone compared to where he is today.

If anybody remembers that tournament too....he seemed to have a grueling schedule with all of the rain delays. I think everyone thought Federer would win just b/c of that. Somehow Nadal's body held up through back to back matches and that epic 5 set match. Could something he was taking have helped him stay healthy all the way through it?
