State Lot Tailgating

So, after 5 years on the waitlist, I got the email from TFC to pick a tailgate spot . I landed what seems like a good spot on edge of Lot 7 in front of the Bob Bullock Museum.

While I've thrown together a few one-day tailgate events in my time, this will all be a little new to me, so I've got a few questions on logistics. Any help would be much appreciated.

  1. Set-up. How does the permit pickup process go? I'm told we need to be there to pick between 6-8pm on Friday, and that we need to "secure" the spot. Do most people just leave a car there? Surely you don't just leave tailgating gear down there overnight, right?

  2. Power. I'm assuming there's no power via outlets in the state lots, right? I've looked into the generator and deep cycle battery solutions, just want to make sure there's no built-in power source before I spend the money. Also, any advice on the generator/battery options would be appreciated. I'm leaning toward 2 6V golf cart batteries in parallel and a 500W inverter.

  3. Timing. What time do people usually get down there to set up? I was thinking around noon-1pm for the first 2 night games? 8-9am for early games.
Thanks in advance for the help. I know most people say it's smarter to just join an existing tailgate, but this is something I've wanted to do for a while now and nobody ever accused me of being smart.

TL;DR: How do I do teh tailgatings?
