Today both the Horns and Aggies gained a point!
Our Men's Indoor Track and Field team won the Big 12 Championship with 115 points! Way go Go Horns! Nebraska was second with 102.5 points and the Aggies third with 84. This is a critical point and one I was worred about but the Horns came through for us.
Unfortunately our Womens Indoor Track and Field team only scored 82.5 points and came in fifth while the Aggies won the Big 12 Championship easily with 130 points.

The standings in the competition is now UT 7 A&M 4. This puts us in good position to win it this year but we still need 3 more points and I still expect the final results to be either 10 to 9 or 11 to 8.
The next scheduled event and the only one in March will be on March 7 starting at noon in Austin with the Women's Tennis match with A&M. We should win it but it could be very close. We really need this one and those that can please go support our ladies.
I think we will win the 2 tennis points and the men's golf point which will give us the needed 10 points to win this year. Still we can't afford to let any get away from us. Our men today really gave us a great chance to regain the overall trophy for this year.
Right now unfortunately 4 of the 5 other points are probably going to go the Aggies play even though I would love to be wrong. But speaking with my head and rather than my heart I expect from past thrends that the Aggies will get the full point in softball, women's golf, and both the outdoor track and field events. But man I would love to be wrong in them all. The baseball point is one that I think should go either way since both teams are highly ranked. I thought maybe that this would be the one to decide the trouphy but as I wrote the Men's Indoor Track and Field team gave us a big boost today.

I look forward to every one's thought and comments on this - especially FWHORN. FWHORN and I have both had the same thoughts and I look forward to his analysis. It is close but things are looking better FWHORN!

tamster no. We already got the Men and Women's Swimming and Diving points when we met the Aggies head to head. In the track and field events and golf the one who gets a higher rank in the Big 12 championships is the one who gets the point. In the other sports the competition is head to head.

Cannot understate the importance of the point yesterday. Many of us had conceded all four T&F points to aggy and figured that it would come down to baseball. We should be overwhelming favorites in mens tennis, favored in womens tennis and mens golf with baseball a 50/50 prospect. Definite underdogs in the outdoor T&F and hard to see a point from softball or women's golf. I agree with Bill that this hoped for but not expected point was critical because it gives us a slight margin for error with baseball but the tennis points are musts. Would be nice to have this thing sewn up before baseball. 10-9 is most likely the outcome but 11-8 isnt out of question.

This year and last year should be a clarion call to the Women's AD, aggy won last year behind dominance in the women's sports and is only in it this year because of their female athletes, Plonsky needs to really put the hammer down and stop this disturbing trend

Hey FWHORN regarding the Fall Sports we really went to town. Overall everything went as I expected except I really expected to get the Men's Cross Country Team point. I knew this might be our Women's Cross Country year and they didn't disappoint. We were young in 2007 and narrowly lost to the Aggies by one point so I expected us to get it in 2008 and they didn't disappoint. Usually the Aggies get the soccer point but our team held them to a tie and split the point. I expected the Fall season to be a success because I expected to get the point in volleyball and football which we did but the others helped us out.

Have to agree that we cant complain at all about the fall sports performance with the exception of the mens cross country point. Had we taken that, the competition would effectively be over. Particularly nice to see was Volleyball not only getting the full point (would have been huge upset to not win both and get full point) but getting over the hump and getting to the Final Four. It was also nice that the football team awakened from their two year slumber post MNC.

To give the womens AD credit we have picked up 2 and 1/2 points in the SF competition that were lost last year with the soccer point getting halved and picking up the womens cross country and swimming points. The disturbing trend is still with the sports like basketball, softball, golf and T/F where the aggies have really moved ahead of Texas. Coach G should get things righted on the court but that still leaves 4 points we are conceding to aggy if things dont turn around in the other ones.

The amazing thing is that even with the women getting dominated last year, had the football team won Texas would have won on the tiebraker.

If Texas wins Women's tennis this week it is hard to not see Texas reclaiming the competition. Will be cheering the ladies on from down here in the Western Caribbean.
