Right now this showdown between the Aggies and us now stands that we are leading 3 1/2 to 1 1/2. There are 19 points available and it takes at least 10 to win it and in case of tie the prior winner retains the crown which is something no one wants at this time. Last year for the first time in 4 years the Aggies edged us out 10 1/2 to 8 1/2.
They edged us out mainly because they 1. Beat us in football. 2. Whipped us in women's points 8 - 2. Women's sports accounts for 10 of the 19 points. The Aggies whipped us in Track and Field and got 4 of the six points. Track and Field points account for almost 1/3 of the available points.
To win it this year we are on the right track. It will probably be close though. Last year at this point we were behind 3 to 2 but this year we are ahead thanks to our soccer team spliting the point with the Aggies and our football team winning. As expected our volleyball team got the full point and our women's cross country team got their point for the first time ever. Unfortunately our men lost the point for the first time ever.
To date we have got the point in football. It looks good in womens sports. Our women's basketball team and swimming and diving team is doing much better than expected. I knew they would be good but they are ariving early and we have great recruits coming.
Unfortunately we will probably be whipped out in Track and Field and the Aggies will have a 5 - 1 edge over us. The Aggies have ourrecruited us bad in these sports lately for some reason. We used to dominate these sports. Thank goodness our Women's Cross Country team came through for us this past fall and should do it again next year.
I expect the Aggies to get the point in women's golf, 4 more in track and field and 1 in softball. Of course I would love to be wrong but I am looking at last year's results and this year's prospects. This will give them 7 1/2 points.
I am hoping we can sweep them in men's basketball and I think we can if we play like we are capable. Before the season I would be delighed if our women's basketball team could split with the Aggies but I think now they have a good chance to get it all. Our men's swimming and diving team should get the point easily. Our women's swimming and diving team should have a great shot at getting the point even though the competition is in College Station. We have great recruits in this sport coming and if the women don't start dominating this year look for them for sure next year but I hope they are early. I am also hoping like last year we can get Men's golf point, baseball point, and the two tennis points.
That would give us 11 1/2 to 7 1/2 for the year with some spare points we could afford to lose and still beat them.
