Starting Offensive LIne

I think that this seems to be the consensus starting offensive line for 2008:

LT: Adam Ulatoski, Jr. (6'8/310)
LG: Charlie Tanner, Jr. (6'4/300)
OC: Chris Hall, Jr. (6'4/300)
RG: Cedric Dockery, Sr. (6'4/320)
RT: Kyle Hix, So. (6'7/320)

That is a big and salty looking o-line. I think that besides OU, Texas has the best offensive line in the Big 12. I look for Colt to be much better because of the improved offensive line.

2 huge OT's. Hoping that Ulatoski makes the transition from RT to LT easily. He whiffed a few times at RT and he just can't do that at LT.

Huey is top backup at OG and he is a big boy too.

Yeah... I read somewhere that Tech had the largest offensive line by size/weight. That doesn't necessarily predict success, but it sure doesn't hurt.

Huey is definitely a starter soon, if not the first game. There are a lot of choices for the guard back-ups. Ulie's elbow was injured in the TCU game, and apparently his knee wasn't right either, since he had it scoped this spring. He played left side in HS, and did indeed back-up both sides earlier at Texas. He should play well.

The biggest deal is the quality of the non-starters. How much drop off will there be when someone is hurt, or just needs to rest? There are freshmen, and converted TEs in the mix. Arkansas will be the test. In the afternoon heat, subs will have to play a lot.

Tray is not going to beat out Hix, but he will get a lot of playing time. He is probably first option for both tackle spots, should someone get hurt.

You're absolutely right about Adam. He did play LT in HS. From what I have seen he is a little inconsistent and he can't have that playing LT. Though he is only a junior this year and if he progresses he can be a very good OT this year and next. Hope he does.

I had thought the same thing about Allen but then I read this the other day:

www.statesman.com/sports/content/sports/stories/longhorns/08/20/0820texscout.html

No mention of Allen and listed Mitchell as a key backup at OT. Got me thinking that I haven't really heard Allen's name mentioned at all this summer thus far.

that's just an omission by suzanne, Uli has referenced Tray as his #1 back up.

i think we're sitting pretty as far as depth goes. the coaches like to have 3 guards, 3 tackles and 2 centers. Having Huey, Allen and Buck as those extra guys makes for some solid depth.

I expect Tanner to be the most improved OL this season.

Hopefully so. Though Huey is ready to step in anytime he plays inconsistent.

I am looking to see Hix step in as a starter and how well he does all season long. The thought of having both him and Adam starting for the next 2 seasons is a very good one.
