I was hoping Marquette would win. The two seven footers make me worry about foul trouble. Play Pittman early?
On the positive side one of their tall guys has to cover James.
Thoughts?

They also have to extend to maybe cover Atchley? Then we can maybe pull their guards/forwards out with DJ, Mason, Abrams and Co. if they get hot. Then that opens up some penetration for a ten foot jumper or a dump off maybe putting the twin ladies in foul trouble. It can go both ways.

They better be ready to run the court in transition bigtime and have the endurance to do so or they won't be in a position to block a shot. At least I hope not. To my knowledge they don't have Go-Go Gadget arms.

their guard play sucks...they dont scare me

also, theyve beaten no one, USC once and WSU once

they played no one in non conference...spare me

our guard play should be more of a problem for them, than there bigs play for us. There is no reason we shouldn't win this one

You guys forgot one thing. Now that we are in Houston we can't lose

Bewteen the two twin 7-footers, Brook (short-haired one) is the one that's really skilled. Robin (Side Show Bob hair) is a good, solid big-man, but not nearly as skilled as his brother.

With Stanford, you have to pack it in and make their guards beat you. Thier guard play is very average.

Anthony Goods is the only guard averaging double-figures (he's their main outsied threat) at just over 10ppg. Mitch Johnson is a good distributor, but not much of a scorer. Lawrence Hill (6'8") and Fred Washington (6'5") share the time at the 3 position, and combined they put up decent numbers, but both (especially Washington) are more inside players than outside players.

If Stanford can beat you hitting outside shots, tip your hat to them, but that's what you have to make them do.

Texas' 2-3 zone will be the key to the game. If they execute well in the zone, cutting down driving lanes for Johnson and passing lanes for the big men to catch the ball low, Texas will win.

While DJ is our team mvp, all things equal, I think we go as far as Abrams continues to hit from the 3 line. We should take care of Stanford.

They have stood their ground with UCLA twice (third game was also pretty close) beat WSU three times (who's in the sweet sixteen), beat Arizona three times, beat oregon, USC , and Marquette. . .

I'd say they are O.K.

I have from a good source that a wolf will be giving the pre-game motivational speech followed by VY. We are not doomed.

As an recent alum and now a graduate student at Stanford, I have had the opportunity to see both of these teams play many games (no live 'Horns games this year).

I can say with 100% confidence that our beloved 'Horns should have no problem taking Stanford to the woodshed. We won't have to worry about the 7' trees, because both Brook and Robin will be in foul trouble the entire game (not the other way around). Both are very susceptible to fouling smaller players going at the basket. No doubt, DJ and Justin will get them in foul trouble very quickly (might get swatted a few times too, but that's to be expected).

If by some miracle Brook and Robin don't get into foul trouble, we should still have no problem. Connor and Damion should be open all day for three as Brook and Robin will not chase them out that far. If they are hitting, we role.

On the defensive end, it's not like Stanford runs a complicated set. The twins both post up low with three guards on the perimeter. Entry passes go into the post from the elbow. I don't think a zone is the answer.

We just have to stay home on Goods, Johnson, and Kenny Brown (who's been hot) because they will make three's (you don't have to guard Washington, he's incapable of shooting). Stopping Brook and Robin is not difficult either. If you can keep them 10-12' from the basket, they will miss most of their shots (Brook does not shoot a high percentage). If they get close, forget about it, turn around, and walk the other way. Also, we can't let them play volleyball with one another.

Overall we shouldn't have a problem. Keep Brook and Robin as far away from the basket as possible, and stay home on their guards (save Washington). If the twins aren't getting in foul trouble, don't keep trying because they are capable of blocking 30 shots.

We need to pressure their guards much like we did against A&M and OU. I also would like to see us run some man and get Dex in there on Brooke Lopez. He can be physical and push him off the block. The Lopez brothers are not great rebounders especially for their size so Damion should do well. I like the way we match up in this game.

What we need to win is for Dex to use every inch and pound of his 300 lb frame to lean his sweaty *** all over the twins. They are pretty agile for 7 footers, but they are feather weights compared to Dex. The entire tourney has been called pretty loose, so Dex needs to lean on them, box them out, and wear their asses down. If he can put his weight into them they will be exhausted by the end of the first half and we should dominate. Add the aggressive James inside knockin people around and we will win by 10 or more.

Having Gary back is huge. If those twins are foul prone, I wouldn't be shocked to see Mooney get a couple of minutes of non-garbage time to try and bait them.

While Stanford is certainly worthy of respect I'm not sure we should 'fear' them...

We should be able to take our big guys outside and then out-quick the twins. Our guards should handle theirs also.

Texas is a top 8 teams this year. They should win this one. Home crowd advantage. Talent favors guard play in the tournament which favors Texas. I like Texas in this one.
