Pimp Daddy
A big early season series starts tonight as both teams look to gain some momentum before the start of conference play.

Parker French will again take the mound as the Friday night starter. The Cardinal staff is very young and they may start a freshman each day on the hill.

Freshman Cal Quantrill a right hander gets the start tonight for Stanford.

The only line-up changes for Texas the interchanging of Montalbano and Barrera at DH and catcher. Montalbano will catch tonight with Barrerra at DH.

Drew Jackson the Cardinal shortstop leads off against French.
He K's swinging for the first out on the breaking ball.

Wayne Taylor from Houston in left swings from the left side and lines a sharp liner to left in front of Gurwitz for a single.

One on and one out for first baseman Danny Diekroeger. He bloops one in front of Gurwitz for another single and French in early trouble.

Two on for Alex Blandino the third baseman with one away.
He is hit by an inside pitch to load the bases.

Here comes Skip for an early visit. This is Stanford's first road series of the season and they are trying to get off to a good start.

Big situation now for French and Ausin Slater the centerfielder for Stanford. The count runs full and a slow roller goes to second Marlow fields and feeds C.J. but the relay is not in time for the double play.

Two away with runners on the corners now as Stanford takes an early 1-0 lead.

Brant Whiting the catcher now at bat as French trys to limit the damage. He grounds to Hinojosa and takes it to the bag unasisted for a big third out.

Texas comes to swing for the first time in the bottom of the first as Stanford leads 1-0.

B. Marlow leads off for the Horns against the righty Cal Quantrill a true freshman who is 0-1 with a 7.72 ERA for the young season.

The count runs full as Texas looks to run the pitch count up like Stanford did in their at bat. Marlow takes one wide and walks.

Payton up and will he bunt? Stanford think so as the third sacker creeps in. So Payton instead rips a liner to right for a single.

Runners on second and first now and the bunt may now indeed come and Hinojosa does just that for a sac.

One away now with runners on second and third for Clemens.
The infield is back so a ground ball should tie the game if it goes to the middle of the infield.

Clemens walks to load the bases.

McGuire now with the same situation that Stanford had in their turn at bat. Bases loaded with one away in another big early situation in the game.

Andy flies to center for a SF that ties the game at 1-1. Clemens got caught between bases but scrambled back to first on a close play.

Just like Stanford had again Texas with runners on the corners with two down.

Montalbano grounds to third and a 5-4 force ends the inning.

The two teams mirror each other in the first and going to the second it results in a 1-1 tie.

French back to the mound for Texas faces the DH Moran to lead off the second. He K's swinging on a slider under the hands for out one.

Zach Houghpower the next batter rolls one to second to Marlow for out two.

French goes for the quick innning against Tony Edman and he gets it on another K swinging to retire the side in order.

Bottom of two coming with the game tied at 1-1.

Quantrill faces Barrera to start the Texas second and the count runs full then lines one the other way to right for a lead off single.

Johnson in right field tonight bunt it too hard back to the mound and a 1-6 force is recorded for the first out.

One on and one out for Gurwitz. Johnson has good wheels and may try to make up for his poor bunt with a steal.

After several pick off throws to no avail a balk is called as Quantrill doesn't come to a complete stop on his delivery.

Gurwitz grounds up the middle, but the shortstop ranges over to make the play as Johnson goes to third on the play.

Two down now for B. Marlow as the top of the order is back around. Marlow fouls off several )-2 offerings, but K's swinging. The ball gets away from the catcher and he can't find it as it lays about three feet from him.

Marlow reaches and Johnson stays at third.

That brings up Payton for Texas with runners on the corners with still two out.

Payton lines one in the gap in right center to the wall for a two rbi triple and Texas takes a 3-1 lead. I don't think I would have challenged Payton with a fast ball there, They did and they paid for it. The extra out on the wild pitch costs Stanford two runs so far.

Hinojosa up with Payton at third with two down. Hinojosa lines a single to right on an 0-2 fast ball.

That plates Payton to swell the Texas lead to 4-1.

Clemens up now with Hinojosa at first with still two away.
He walks to push C.J. to second and put two on now for McGuire.

McGuire also lines one to right for another rbi single as Hinojosa scores to make it 5-1 Texas

Runners on the corners for Montalbano with still two down.
People are running to the Stanford bullpen now.

Montalbano lines another one to right center and the right fielder cuts it off, but it goes as double that scores another run to make it 6-1 Texas.

Barrera flies out to end the inning, a big one for Texas.

They score 5 runs with two down.

After two completed Texas with a big 6-1 lead for French.

Jackson up again as the top of the order for Stanford is up once more.

French K's him swinging for out one.

French retires the next two batter with Dekroeger ending the inning on a called third strike to retire Stanford in order.

I missed the second out as my feed crapped out.

Anyway as we head to the bottom of the third Texas leads
6-1.

Stanford brings in a new righty pitcher Daniel Stalwart and they need an effort worthy of his name to keep Stanford in this game.

Johnson leads off and grounds out to third for one away.

Gurwitz grounds to short and a 6-3 put out records out two.

B. Marlow back for his third at bat rips one on a line to the first baseman who makes a self defense stab to retire the side in order.

Heading to the fourth inning now with Texas up 6-1.

French back to the hill in the fourth faces Blandino leading off for Stanford.

He skies one straight up over the mound and Clemens comes over to make the catch for one away.

A grounder to second is out two.

Whiting up as French has settled down and mowing down Cardinals. The count runs full and a ground ball up the middle goes off Hinojosa's glove into shallow center for a two out hit.

Doran slaps a high slider to right field for another single to put two on with two out.

Hoffpauir a safety for the Stanford football team is up as we recall John Elway playing right for Stanford in a regional in Austin. Yes, that was the best hose I ever saw Keith and I saw that throw live.

Back to the present and Hoffpauir whiffs on the tackle, I mean the swing and it retires the side.

To the bottom of four and Texas still up 6-1.

Payton leads off the Texas fourth against Stalwart.
He grounds one up the middle into center for his third hit of the night in three tries. This guy is kinda good.

Hinojosa is up and with a five run lead he still lays down the sac bunt or maybe not as Garrido stops and has a talk with him. It still is recorded as a sac even if he was trying for a hit.

Payton at second with one down for Clemens.

He K's swinging on a big change up for the second out.

McGuire up with two down looking for yet another two out rbi
hit, but instead K's looking on the inside corner to retire the side.

Four innings in the books with Texas leading 6-1.

French out for his fifth inning of work looks to become eligible for the win.

He faces the second baseman Edman leading off for the Cardinal. French fights his way back from a 3-0 count to get the out on a ground ball to short.

Jackson, the top of the Stanford order is up and he takes a called third strike as French paints the outside corner.

Two out now for Taylor who has already registered a hat trick with three K's. This time he lines out to Marlow and the side is retired in order.

Halfway through the first game of the three game set and Texas leads 6-1.

Stalwart starts the Texas fifth against Montalbano and he pops up to the second baseman for the first out.

Barrera comes to the plate and lines a frozen rope to left right at the left fielder for out two.

Johnson up and he swings at one at least a foot outside for a K and that retires the side in order.

After five innings it's Texas leading 6-1.

The sixth rolls around with French still hurling for Texas.

He has eight strike outs on the night and faces Dekroeger leading off for the Cardinal.

He leads off with a five pitch walk to put the lead man on.

Blandino up now with one on flies a can of corn to right for Johnson who makes the easy play for one down.

Slater up now for Stanford with one on and one out chops one to McGuire who fires to Marlow for a 5-4 force on a close play for the second out.

Whiting up with two away and a man on first fists one back to French who fields and flips to first to retire the side.

Bottom of the six on the way Texas on top 6-1.

Stanford has a new hurler in lefty Castellonas. Stalwart did a good job in relief for Quantrill for Stanford.

Gurwitz leads off and gets a metal bat hit that flares just over the first baseman and out of the reach of the second baseman.

B. Marlow up again at the top of the order flies out to left for out one.

Payton up trying to keep his perfect night going as he is 3-3 with two singles and a big triple that plated two run.

He grounds to second and a 4-6-3 double play ends Mark's perfect night and retires the side.

Six innings have been played and Texas in control 6-1.

Thanks for the updates.

French after throwing exactly 100 pitches has left the game and Morgan Cooper the freshman right hander is in to face Doran leading off.

A one hopper right back to Cooper goes off his glove for a lead off hit.

Hoffpauir up with a man on now has a high fast ball blown right by him for a swinging K for the first out.

Edman is batting now for the Cardinal the color and not the bird by the way. He lifts a pop that just goes over the diving McGuire for a single that got in on his hands.

Two on now and a bunt goes back to the mound and Cooper fields and throws him out for two away as the runners move up.

Probably not a sac in that situation, but never heard a ruling on it.

Two out and two on and a ground ball to first as Cooper covers the bag goes 3-1 to retire the side.

Stretch time in Austin as Texas maintains their 6-1 lead.

Hinojosa leads off the seventh for the Horns.

He lines one in the gap in right center, but the right fielder runs it down for a nice play to record the first out.

Clemens up and he K's looking for out two.
McGuire is coming to bat and out comes the Stanford coach and a new pitcher will enter.

Griffin Weir a big righty with a big fast ball comes in throwing gas to Andy in the 90's. Control might be his fault however, as he walks McGuire on a full count pitch.

One on with two away for Montalbano lines one of those fast balls past the third basemans down the line for a double.

McGuire comes all the way around to scores and Texas puts one more on the board to make it 7-1. The pitching coach comes out the mound for a chat.

Barrera lines one hard and the third baseman makes the diving snag to retire the side.

The game moves on to the eighth now with Texas in cruise control now 7-1.

I had barbecue for dinner tonight and I've been in a food coma for a while. I just remembered that we played tonight. I guess it takes me not paying attention for us to do well.

Cooper still pitches for Texas and faces Dekroeger leading off.

A full count pitch is left down stairs for ball four for a lead off walk.

Blandino come to bat flares a ball to right and Johnson dives but doesn't come up with it. It goes as a double down the line and a threat brews with two aboard at second and third with none away.

A balk is called and that scores a run and moves the other runner to third.

The new score is 7-2 Texas now and Slater at bat plates another run with a single to left that makes it 7-3.

Whiting up with a runner at first and still no outs.
Two straight balls brings out Skip for a discussion.
He heads back to the dugout and leaves Cooper in.
A fly ball to right is out one.

Out comes Skip again with the hook this time and the new closer the former starter, senior Nathan Thornhill comes in for his first appearance in his new role.

Doran up with one away now and a man on first.

A chopper goes back to Thornhill and it's a 1-6 force to record the second out.

A pinch hitter named Dominic Jose is up now as Stanford is scratching to get back in this game.

He K's swinging as Thornhill goes to the breaking stuff to retire the side.

Bottom of the eighth is next and Stanford has closed the gap, but Texas still leads 7-3.

David Schmidt another right hander is in to pitch for Stanford in the Texas ninth and he is greeted by Johnson leading off with a liner down the third base line.

It's a lead off double and bring Gurwitz to the box.
He lines one to right for a single as Johnson holds at third.

Runners on the corners with no outs brings the top of the order and B. Marlow.

He lines a single to left to make it 8-3.

Payton up now with runners on first and second.

Payton grounds one into right field for another hit that makes it now 9-3 Texas as Gurwitz scores.

Hinojosa rips a long drive to left, but the left fielder makes a really good over the shoulder catch just stort of the track.

The runners hold and with one out Clemens is due, but first another pitching change for Stanford.

Right hander Gabe Cramer faces Clemens with one out and riunners on first and second.

Clemens K's swinging on an eye high fast ball for two away.

McGuire up now still looking to do more damage for Texas swings at one in the dirt and is put out 2-3 to compete the K and that retires the side.

To the top of the ninth with Thornhill trying to shut down Stanford and give Texas the opening game of the series.

The Horns lead 9-3.

Hall goes into left field for Gurwitz as Thornhill faces the lead man for Stanford in the ninth.

Edman is that man and he bleeds one into left for a single.

A pinch hitter Austin Barr flies out to Hall in left for out one.

Sorry, my feed went down again, but Thornhill gets the last two outs and Texas wins 9-3 to take the first game.

Ok, I looked it up and Taylor stuck out swinging for the second out and Dekroeger grounded out to second to end the game.

Good start for the Horns as the bats lit up the Stanford pitchers. The pitching was solid as usual and the fielding was there again when needed.

This was probably the most complete game of the season played by Texas at least against quality competition. They pretty much grabbed control of the game early and kept it.

Tomorrow at 2pm Texas goes for the series win with Dillon Peters slated as the starter.
