Yes, I know, Akinradewo, Barboza and Klineman are awesome and stuff, blah blah blah. And so are Paolini, Engle and Hooker. Ailes? Kisner! Okogbaa? Doris! Waller? Faucette! So we more than hold own, talent-wise.
Same with this experience factor. I don’t buy that Stanford will be more comfortable in a final four. Our girls have played plenty of big matches including playing USC and Stanford in the Qwest Center in Omaha earlier this year! The very same place the final four will be. Plus, I expect the Big XII crowd there to be behind Texas more than any Pac-10 valley-girls, I mean volley-girls.
I don’t buy any setter guff either. Yes, Kocher is a frosh, but Lichtman is a soph and is in her first year as a starting setter. I checked Lichtman’s stats for last year – she had a whopping 11 assists. Kehoe took all their sets. Lichtman didn’t look to play that much, and mostly as an OH, and even there was 7th on the team in hitting attempts. So I don’t see any edge for her. In fact, I bet over her lifetime, Kocher has taken about a million more reps than Lichtman.
How about desire? Dang, look at the competitive desire of Engle, Hooker, Faucette. I see real fire and passion there. And that desire has been further fueled by the tough road the Horns have taken. The Horns have a huge edge in this department.
The match earlier this year went 5 sets. The Horns got down in a two-set hole, and still dug out to take it to five. And I think the Horns have improved more since then than the Cardinal.
I think, if our girls play their game, and hang tough, like they have ALL YEAR, then our girls win.
Texas fight!
