Stanford Matchup?

What are everyone's thoughts on a possible meeting Stanford in the second weekend? In my opinion, this team is the biggest threat in the South Region. Their inside game with the 7 foot Lopez twins could hurt us. ( They always play a strong UCLA team very close) Memphis and Pitt are very good teams, but from some reason Stanford is the team I have my eye on. Thoughts?

That matchup definitely scares me. I remember very well that first half at aTm when their low post offense destroyed us. It's our biggest weakness and their biggest strength.

I think we can outscore them maybe, but I fear their inside O.

If Stanford makes it to Houston—and I don't think they will—Texas would run them out of the gym. Stanford's guards are terrible. They can't push the ball (watch the second to last possession of the Pac-10 tournament game). They can't shoot. DJ, AJ and Mason would dominate.

Those lumbering Lopez twins wouldn't be able to defend Texas's ball screens with Connor and James up top. And we have enough capable big men to push them off the block. This is a game where Pittman would be huge for us.

Don't just believe me. Believe my buddy Grant Wahl from SI.

good point with PIttman, I fear the twins gettin quick fouls on Connor and Johnson though.I hope you're right about weak guard play, that would be a big help, but for now lets take down Austin Peay!

Very interesting comments from Wahl... thanks, SC...

I do know that Stanford's guards would have a hard time with Texas's guards.

It is a tough call, but I think the Marquette match up scares me more than anything. If any team in the South region has guards that can match up with ours, it is Memphis, Pitt, and a Marquette team whom we would play barring everything plays out and they upset Stanford. That upset is more than capable too.
