Offense: Eagles, Duvernay, C Johnson, Sam, Ingram, OL in general—there were many times Sam had all day to throw and the blocking was generally pretty good.

Defense: Roach, Ossai, Sterns, Green.

Rising stars: Sweat, R Johnson, C Thompson, Smith, Coburn.

OVERSHOWN!

I actually thought Chris Brown played the best of the DB's. Kobe Boyce needs to ride the pine for a few games.

We need more pressure on the opposing QB from our D front. I noticed that Jacoby Jones was getting consistent pressure and penetrating into the backfield during his limited playing time. He’s what we need. Maybe we’ll see more of him.

(In the meantime please refrain from sucker punching your own teammates in practice big guy...:smile1:).

Tyler Owens got a great hit on the kick off coverage. With all the traffic and being being on the second row I couldn’t see it. But the crowd reacted to it and they didn’t show the replay on the tron. But it sounded good.

Sam, because he showed good improvement over last season on throwing downfield over the middle. That freed Duvernay and his crossing and out routes and the TE's over the middle.

One thing that concerns me is that we might be allowing our defensive ends to get too big. Weight helps against the run but not the pass. Meh, I could be worried about nothing.

Offensive line play was the standout to me. Funny how an offensive game plan looks better when blitzes are picked up, running lanes are opened, and generally guys up front control the game. It's been a while since we've seen that.

We'll see if this was fool's gold against a bad team, but that's a step or two up from as good as we've looked even against bad competition.

Most impressive offensive player was J Whit. I've been looking for a RB that could read the defense, pickup the blitz, and stick his helmet in the LBs chest. He did it a few times last night.

I realize that Herman kept the offense under wraps and all we got was plain vanilla, but Sam will not make it through the season with this OL. He took some bad hits last night that should not have been.

I was glad to see lots of kids get in, particularly Casey & Roschon.

Sabre, you have followed Roschon the longest. If he should turn into a stud RB, does he accept that and carries on, or would he want to go back to the QB room?

The kid is very intelligent. He wants to win and will move to OL if it helps the team. Roschon is at Texas to win and get a quality education, Whatever it takes.

I was hoping last night that Herman would let him read the defense and call the play for Casey at the line of scrimmage. He called the plays at PNG for two years.

couple things. I think we are going to miss Omenihu the most this year. Honestly. our 3 down defensive linemen are like having 3 Dts on the field back in the Mack Brown days of the 4-3 defense. they are big, strong, hell to move out on a running play but they are slow at getting to the QB. This is a huge concern going into next week. We are going to have to get some pressure on Burrows.

The one saving grace is that they were getting the ball out of the QBs hands in under 3 seconds. We see this offense 2 or 3 times a year, maybe more. We could have Clemson's dline and we wouldn't get to the QB in that much time.

The key is going to be taking away their running game and minimize the receivers running after the catch. The negative to this offense is that it's not the best in the red zone if we can keep them out and limit them to field goals we will stand a great chance of pulling out the win.

Chris Brown and Joseph Ossai looked great. Duvernay only averaged 6-7 yards/catch, but he kept the chains moving, and knows the playbook well enough to line up at RB and converted the 4th down. I really like that play - either he just made a great cut when he saw the hole, or the play was designed to look like "speed WR lining up at RB, he'll probably run to the edge" and then have him head forward early after the defense overpursued.

Sam got hit? I saw one sack and Sam generally avoiding the big hit on defensive players. Hell, he even slid one time.

I am going to go with Duvernay as the MVP of the game. Honorable mention for Engram.
Duvernay is a player that would fit the Patriot system to a t. Plus great hands. It wouldn't surprise me to see Duvernay as a first round pick because he's got everything hands and speed. We need to feature him every game. Make people scheme for him. But I also think Eagles is a star in the making.

A lot of good report cards from that game on both sides of the ball. So I'm feeling somewhat cocky & relaxed today. However, as the LSU game grows closer, I will become as nervous as a dog in a Korean restaurant.

I was impressed with the general consistency of the OL.

MVP's:

If I have to single out 1 on each side of the ball:

Duvernay - O... honorable mention: Sam
Ossai - D .... honorable mention: Roach

Concerns:

1. Sam forced the ball on at least 2-3 throws - very risky.
2. DBU need to hold extra class time this week - missed assignments, poor tackling, missed coverage and not looking for the ball...
3. DL is going to have to get pressure on the LSU QB Sat.

Worster, number 3 will help number 2, but Orlando and Herman need to have serious Bull-In-The-Ring and geometry sessions Monday and Tuesday with just the DB's. Coverage mistakes could have partially been the result of the wrong set being sent in by the staff. However, there is no excuse at all for the wrong angles and failure to wrap-up.

J Jones, Bimage, and Ojomo (our smaller quicker front) may rotate in more frequently to get more pressure on the QB.

We also showed a weird front sometimes with Roach at NT and 3 or 4 guys in a two point stance (some of them LBs and even Safeties) up on the line to blitz in obvious passing situations.

That wasnt the Olines fault. They gave great protection all game long.
Agree. For the most part, Sam had plenty of time to throw. Many times he had all day to throw. He was pressured a relatively small number of times—that will happen even with an OL consisting of 5 all-Americans. I saw Braun (of all people) fail to pick up a blitzing LB (that long haired blond guy) resulting in a hard sack. It was a delayed blitz. Braun at first had no one to block so he put a hit on a DL that was being blocked by another lineman, pushing him backwards. When he did that, the LB quickly blitzed and Braun didn’t quite make it to him in time.

But generally, the pass blocking was good. If Sam has that much time against LSU, he will pick them apart.
