St. Patty's Day meal

This is truly one of my favorite days for food every year, up there with Thanksgiving, and our annual Oktoberfest night.

My wife made corned beef, colcannon, spotted dog (soda bread) with some wensleydale to go with it, various veggies and of course we had Guinness. My wife had salmon because of Lent. It's really funny that my 3yo daughter picks the raisins out of the spotted dog, exactly the same thing that I used to do as a kid.

Anyone else have a nice St. Patty's day meal?

Yes, but due to my annual pub crawl for St. Patrick's Day starting with the full Irish breakfast at Fado and ending with the traditional stop at The Dog and Duck and a sports bar on Friday for the 'Horns first round game, it had to be on Thursday night.

We did a Cabbage and "Bacon" Pie recipe out of Saveur magazine which did a story on Ireland last year. The "bacon" is really ham and the "pie" is really a casserole topped with mashed potatoes made with a cup of cream, a ton of butter and scallions. Maybe the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. We had the Irish Soda Bread, also, and because the "pie" was fairly rich and heavy we just had a simple green salad with it. Guinness, of course, for me, but Mrs. Tull is not a beer drinker. She had a Queen of Hearts Pinot Noir recommended by the "wine guy" at Central Market, and pronounced it quite nice. I wasn't sure what wine would go with ham, cabbage and mashed potatoes, but she says this was a success.

Slainte!
