Next August it will be 25 years since that helicopter crash took this Texas icon and world class musician away from us.

Doesn't seem that long ago since he was jamming at the Armadillo. Where does the time go.

Damn. I'll never forget where I was when I heard he died. Listening to KLBJ as I was pulling into a parking spot on East Campus Drive between the music buildings and LBJ Library. It was right before the start of my freshman year at UT.

Doesn't seem like that long ago that I would see him with The Fabulous Thunderbirds (wasn't in that band but I think he would show up at times to play with Jimmie Vaughn), Paul Ray and the Cobras, and of course Double Trouble at the Rome Inn.
That place was rockin' back in the '70s.
