What would be more effective at destroying the squirrel population my backyard, bb's or pellets?

hmmm.. maybe pellets then. My problem is that 2 or 3 squirrels hang out in my oak tree and taunt my dogs all day long, who in turn pulverize and destroy any landscaping within 10' of the tree. My heeler has gotten several feet up the tree in her efforts to catch the damn things.Course, if bb's would at least knock a squirrel to the ground she would take care of the rest...

Pellets. If you're good at head shots, BBs might work. You probably want them dead when they hit the ground. My aim was a little off on one and that little beast put up a hell of a fight when my lab caught it falling out of the tree.

I have a cheap BB gun and shoot pellets at squirrels. Doesn't really hurt them bu they get the message. I got the gun originally to shoot House Sparrows (a non native pest) but it's more fun shooting at squirrels. BTW, they are a true pest for all you animal lovers.

There has to be a way to get rid of them without killing them. I find it pretty sad to take an animal's life to protect your ******* foliage.

Live trap. Then take them for a looooong ride at night. Otherwise they're pretty good at finding their way back.

BTW, they've done hundreds of dollars worth of damage to my roof, so it's more than foliage.

Use a paintball gun. That way you can identify them if they were ever to come back. If they do, then resort to bb/pellet/22.12 guage.

you could always single-feed them into a cheap bolt-action or semi-auto. (though I bet they wouldn't cycle an auto) I've got an old Colt Frontiersman revolver I've fired shorts from a few times. It's a little loud because it's a revolver though.
You could probably pick up an old single shot .22 at a pawn shop or gun show for next to nothing.

i have killed and eaten shitloads of squirrels and have just shot shitloads of em for the hell of it...NO MORE

my daughter found a baby squirrel in october. didnt have his eyes open yet. my wife made me humor her and take it to raise. we never thought it would live. i fed it with an eye dropper for a while then a tiny little bottle etc... and he did survive.
we planned on letting him go when he got fully grown but that is out of the question now.. he is too cool.
he perches on my shoulder and plays like a cat.
he and my lab are buddies.. he rides my lab around the house when we let him out.
wish i knew how to post a video.

anyway.. pellets > bbs

could a suburban guy with close neighbors get in trouble for killing squirrles in their plano front yard. seriously, i recently spent over $500 bucks getting my eaves replaced from squirell damage and those little ******* are already back at it. they get into my attic and among other things, have gnawed away at some funiture. i have no doubt i may shock neighbors if they saw me, but would i get in trouble????

.22 shorts are the way to go. But, make sure you get head shots. Body shots make the poor bastard moan and whine before you get over for the kill shot.

Get a live trap if you don't like squirrels in your yard. I got a Hav-a-heart, set it up upside down with nuts in it for a few days and then turned it right side up, loaded it with nuts and caught the little bastard right off the bat. Hauled him several miles away and let him loose in a Pecan tree out by the lake. Did him the best favor ever and now no freaking squirrel.

Dude make a small puddle of water.

Strip the end off an extension cord.

Lay one, bare exposed wire in the water.

Lay the other on the top of a nut in the middle of the water.

Squirrel grabs nut, wire falls in water and no more squirrel. Very quick and humane.

Go reset breaker and place nut and wire again.

Wait for next squirrel.

Really glad I could help out.

If you really, really hate the little ********, you can do what I once did (unintentionally):

My step-mother told me that she mixed cayenne pepper in with her birdseed to stop the squirrels from eating it all. (It doesn't bother birds.)

So I tried it at our house. The next day I found a dead squirrel in the yard.

It's brains were coming out of its eye-hole. Apparently he had scratched his own brains out.
