Sprinkler repair recommendations in Austin

I would really appreciate some recommendations for someone competent, honest and reasonably-priced to repair a home sprinkler system. We just bought a house with a non-working system and would like to get it going. Never had a sprinkler system before and don't know much about them. But I do know that "manual" watering this time of year is really getting old. Thanks!

I've used these guys in the past, very professional although they're not cheap (they'll tell you that upfront)...out of curiosity, what's wrong with the existing system? Repairing it yourself could be easier than you think, depending on what's wrong with it...

I'm not exactly sure what's wrong with it. The controller appears to work and I can hear water flowing through the main valve. But nothing comes up from the sprinkler heads. So I'm guessing broken pipe(s) or the zone valves are bad.

I had a guy (recommended by a neighbor) come out and look at it. He looked at the main valve for about 2 seconds and said it needed to be replaced- didn't test it or anything. He then fiddled with one zone valve and said they all needed to be replaced. Then he offered to install new valves, controller, and repair broken heads for $1100. Maybe this is a good deal, I don't know. But I'm very skeptical of his "diagnosis" and want to get some additional estimates.

I'll throw in a plug for Wilson Irrigation. They installed my system about 15 yrs ago and I've had them come out 2-3 times since then to fix or adjust various things. Recently, I had a problem with one of my zones not working at all. They came out and fixed that (it was a loose wire in my controller that I should have noticed myself but didn't) and changed out a few sprinkler heads and then adjusted a few others. I was pleasantly surprised at the low price it cost for this latest trip.

Anyway, they probably will not be the cheapest company out there, but they do great work and they provide great service, too.

When we bought our house, our puppy promptly dug up all of the wires for the sprinkler system. We just got it fixed last week. The guy replaces all of the wires and buried them in conduit for the grand price of 200 bucks.

The guy's name is Sergio Montoya. He's a little hard to understand, but did a good job for us and was honest-- and much cheaper than I thought it would be. LHF68 has his number... let me or him know if you'd like his contact info. I'm assuming you're in Austin...

Thank everyone for all the info. I ended up using these folksThe Link and my system is now operational. Turned out to be numerous causes- mostly broken pipes and heads. Turned out to be a lot cheaper than that first guy that tried to sell me a whole new system.

On to the next project...
