One of the unfortunate things about having talented, ambitious people working for you is that they move on. Russell Springmann will be a really good head coach someday, but I hope it's not going to start next season.

DMN update

I'd hate to lose him, but I'd love to see Springmann get this opportunity. I think he's going to be a terrific head coach.

Yeah, in all honesty, VCU is a pretty good mid-major job. Capel and Grant certainly leveraged it into a more high profile, higher paying job. I would be happy for him, if he were to get the opportunity. It would be hard to see him go, as he's acknowledged as our best recruiter. And his track record backs that up pretty convincingly. The hope, if this were to come to fruition, is that Barnes has replaced his "best recruiter" a couple of different times already (Rob Lanier, Frank Haith) and things have turned out just fine. Chances are we'll be okay, again.

Yeah, the guy is definitely a legit assistant coach and one of the better recruiters in the country. It will be tough to see him go.

Not sure if too many people were actually concerned about this, but Springmann won't be leaving...at least not for the VCU job. VCU wound up hiring Shaka Smart, assistant coach for Donovan in Florida.
