Spring Game: Good News/Bad News

It's hard to gain anything from the spring game, but I was underwhelmed for the most part.

That's better news than it sounds, because one of the improvements I saw was in the pass defense and pass rush. We could hardly complete a pass, but the man coverage was outstanding. We will be in the Top 20 Pass efficiency defense this year.

The other mixed news was that Colt would have been killed if this were a real game. The pass rush was impressive.

On offense, our running game looks sound. We just need to develop the young wideouts. Hopefully, a lot of 7 on 7's during the summer will help.

I'm very much looking forward to September. Just glad we have the WNBA to fill the void during the summer.

Isn't a defense suppsed to be ahead or even way ahead of the offense at this stage of the game? I think we do have a defense THAT good at this point and for next year. It does nothing but help our offense to go up against those guys till the season starts.

we do return every starter from the OL that started the Holiday Bowl...combine that with a new but promising d-coordinator, spells trouble for our o-line. maybe.

I'm just glad UT plays a baseball game every day of the week. I think they've played a couple hundred already. Every time I turn on the radio they are playing.

When that's not on, somebody is talking golf, NASCAR and fishing. Real exciting, for sure.

I think our o line has more depth than the d line, but the d line's starters are better. From what I saw, when the firsts where against each other the d line was taking care of business, but when the seconds faced off it was the other way around. Let's hope that d line stays healthy, or we may be in trouble.

Tray Allen got beat a number of times. It looked like most of them were with speed rushes and him getting his feet stuck in the ground. I think only once was it more of a bull rush. A few twists or line stunts gave trouble up the middle. I didn't notice any DL in the middle making plays except Miller.

I didn't get to see it but I wouldn't be concerned over the OL getting beat on the egdes too much. From my experience it takes you linemen, or ones in a new position to get used to all the twists and shifts. The important thing is when they lock on did they get low and block, and how big was their push on the snap? The rest comes in time.

Did anyone notice if the RBs showed any promise at blocking the rush? I have seen this become one of the most important factors of the offense in the past few years and I hope we learn that well.

No Adam Ulatoski. Trey Allen won't be our starting left tackle, and the defense is supposed to be whipping the offense at this point.

Not time to panic.

Well, the new punter looks good.
Chiles looks fast but still can't hit the broad side of a broad.
The secondary looks pretty good.

Other than that - suck. I'm only through the 1st half though so maybe it'll pick up.
