Heading into the NCAA playoffs, Arizona softball has two injured players. Both are star pitchers. Kenzie Fowler took herself out of her last game with numbness in her throwing arm and swollen fingers. Game before that, pitcher Sarah Akamine sprained her knee in the circle.

They say Fowler has a pinched nerve that interrupts blood supply. If you are her folks, do you want her throwing in post season?

Kenzie is a unique case. During her senior year in high school she had Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (restricted blood flow between the arm and ribs) on the right side. She had a rib removed to improve blood flow. The syndrome is life threatening.

Strictly as a parent, I would not want my child to play, but I know the competitive nature of the beast, and would have to go with what the doctor will allow.
