SportingNews ranks best Big 12 players by position

I once had a subscription to SportingNews, but they seemed to go out of their way to take shots at Texas, so I didn't renew my subscription. I'm not overly sensitive to that type of thing (in fact, I'd rather read criticism than sunshine pumping), but the hate was so palpable that I'm thinking someone there must have lost a bundle betting on Texas pre-VY.

We'll see what that list looks like at the end of the season. That's all that matters anyway!

Matt Hayes has proven himself a complete dumbass time after time when it comes to cfb. Hell, Bobino is the third best LBer at UT behind Norton and Muck.

And to call the other 4 top 5 QBs "legitimate" Heisman contenders leaves out the fact that his freshman year Colt WAS a legit Heisman contender before his injury.

I don't know that the Horns deserve a ton of pre season hype but that is one piss poor list.

so does that mean our kicker is our best player?

i want to beat cu badly--nothing would make me happier than seeing scott end up with about 26 yards for the game.

the lack of representation on that list in the kicking game is probably going to cost ou 2 or 3 games.

My favorite line of the article Nivek linked is this description of Selvin Young:

"Young, a 225-pound load with a punishing style, is a Ricky Williams/Cedric Benson-type back"

WTH!?!?!

There is no doubt that TSN isn't even worthy of wiping one's *** with and that Matt Hayes is a no-talent hack (was it him or Tom Deinhart who publicly opined that Pete Carroll's hiring would accomplish nothing for USC?).

That being said, I have a hard time arguing with most of what he wrote. Be serious. Colt was only a Heisman 'candidate' because he was a freshman when he took over a very talented team (as opposed to the year before when it was a very, very, very talented team). Out of Muck, Norton, and Bobino, Rashad has been the only one who has consistently produced (which is not to put down either Muck or Norton--I think Jared is probably Texas's best LB). Orakpo is a beast, but up until now has been a part-time starter.

Just because Texas doesn't have any all-stars doesn't mean that the TEAM won't be okay. There were a couple of threads over the last few weeks about this team having no real standouts. People were saying the same thing a few years ago about Texas's young secondary that produced no less than five NFL draft picks, 2 Thorpe Award winners, and one MNC trophy.

Not mentioning Zac Robinson -- despite mentioning 8 total QB's -- is a joke too.

3rd highest pass efficiency rating, ran for 850 yards and 9 TD's at 6 yards a tote.
