Spices Rubs

My girlfriend bought me Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill Cookbook and it has some wonderful recipes inside but I'm finding it difficult to find all the spices that's needed for his rubs. Tonight I'm making his Spice Crusted New York Strip Steak with Mesa Grill Steak Sauce and I'm having a difficult time finding ancho chile powder, Spanish paprika and chile de arbol. Is there a place on the internet that you guys recommend where I can buy some of these spices? I think the only store the we have in common is Whole Foods, how is there spice selection? I think I'll use a cajun rub until I can find the proper spices. Bought a new cast iron skillet last night and I'm looking forward to steaks, creamed spinach, corn and hearty glass of malbec. Do you guys have steak rub recipes that are your favorites? I'm a salt and pepper guy and believe that rubs just mask the flavor of a good steak but I had a great steak recently that changed my mind. I now believe the right rub will enhance the flavor of a good steak. Steak sauce is another story, hate steak sauce!!!

For steaks, McCormick's Montreal seasoning is really all you need. Its a very basic rub/seasoning that adds a few other spices to salt and pepper, along with some garlic or onion I think.

Whole Foods has a pretty good spice selection. You can substitute other paprikas for Spanish, which usually tastes a little smokier than other types. If WF doesn't have them, you can usually find ancho and arbol at hispanic markets.

I've found that Bolner's has a couple of steak rubs that I like quite a bit. First is "Unlce Chris's" Steak Seasoning, and the second is their "Texas" Steak Seasoning. Both really different, but both are solid in my book.

Whole Foods should have those spices. If not, you can always buy whole dried Ancho and Arbol chiles, toast them in a skillet until the aroma becomes stron, and then grind them in a food processor/coffee grinder for a while.

You should be able to buy those anywhere, but Whole Foods will definitely have them.

This place looks like a good place to order spices and has some pretty interesting recipes. Anyone use them?

I've never used the spice house, but they look pretty good.

I've ordered from penzeys before, both mail order and at their store in memphis and have been happy with them.
