Spent last couple hours watching commits' videos

I spent the last couple of hours watching every single video that I could find of our current commits.

I have to say that, no offense to Mack's 2002 class, but I think that this class is going to turn out to be Mack's best ever at Texas. It might not win a national championship because that's always such a crapshoot with regards to injuries, depth etc...

But top to bottom, position for position, I think this year's commit list is even deeper and more balanced than that 2002 class. Add DGB or Mario Edwards to the mix (both, please!) and the talent level will be in a complete different galaxy from what we've seen here before.

BI, I need to do the same thing but haven't yet. Who ( in addition to Gray) really jumps out to you? Could you offer a top5 you're most excited about?

We all hope you're right.

I dont see a VY in this class yet... I hope im wrong. But Vy was a game changer, and a program changer, I hope Gray can be that guy but within 3 Games of Vy's Fresh year I knew he was that guy.

It is a class that has top talent at nearly position:

QB - Brewer
RB - Gray
WR - Jones
DT - Brown
DB - Sanders

I would like a little more size out of the other DB. Though I am not sur if Overstreet or Colbert end up playing DB. I like Ridgeway at DE but not sure he is that all-conference level. The 4 guys at OL look very promising. I like the size of all 4 and think this may have been the best recruited position of all.

You would think that after the results of some of our past "great" recruiting classes, that everyone would take the "wait and see" route. Guess not.....

Over half of VY's class was a total and unequaled bust compared to other classes from Mack's tenure. Young, Blalock, and Rod Wright might have been the keys to our success, but then there were:

The Nimrods:
Marco Martin
Edorian McCullough
Robert Timmons
Marquis Johnson
Mike Williams
Garnet Smith

and The Gimps:
Haney
Hardy
Miksch
Pickryl
Valdez

and we also lost guys like Chase Pittman from that group. That class finished its career at UT as a very winning group, but only the core of it that actually survived. We lost fewer kids to attrition/turnover in the entire 2003-05 classes that followed than the 2002 class alone.

Is there a site out there that retroactively ranks recruiting classes? Like 5 years later?

You are always going to have busts within a class. Think about it. You take 20-25 kids each year and can only have 85 on the roster which is counting redshirts. So you are taking that many expecting to lose around 10% to 20% of your class every year due t attrition. Then there is another % of the class which doesn't start and maybe plays some backup or special teams. Like those OL that are 5th year seniors that never start unless there is just nobody else. But you need them for depth.

As far as the 02 class.....we did get quite a bit of production out of these guys....David Thomas, Selvin Young, Vince Young, Kasey Studdard, Justin Blalock, Brian Robison, Aaron Harris, Rod Wright, Lyle Sendlein, Larry Dibbles, Aaron Ross. That is 11 players that were starters or co-starters for the national championship team in 05. Dibbles and Ross weren't starters but they played significant minutes and were key contributors. 3 of the 5 starting OL were from this class. In total 6 starters on offense and 3 on defense. What really didn't pan out the most from this class was the amazing talent it had on defense. Guys that either left early, were injured, etc.....McCullough, Pickryl, Pittman, Smith, Williams. If even 3 of those 5 had panned out...oh my. But even without focusing on what we lost or who didn't pan out, if you just look at those 11 that lived up to expectations...oh my.

Point is, lets just welcome these young men to UT, wish them the best and see what happens. Every year somebody post "this calss is just sick". I dont know about you guys, but I thru-up a few times the last coupla years. Very very very few recruits are as good as advertised. Yes, we all remember the ones who do. The jump from any level HS ball to D1 ball is tremendous. Lets just see what happens on the field before we get our panties moist over a 18 year prospect.
