Speed Racer

I went into this movie with very low expectations after reading the reviews and seeing the trailer, but I ended up liking it quite a bit. They did a great job of remaining true to the original cartoon. It had amazing visual effects and exciting race scenes. Of course it was filled with crazy stunts, weird contraptions on the cars, and a complete disregard for the laws of physics. Take your kids and have fun.

I'm 39 and grew up idolizing the cartoon series. I went to see it yesterday (in IMAX) and was very pleased. Brought out the 3rd grader in me. I was glad they didn't try to complicate the story and stayed true to the original show. 2 thumbs up.

("Two Horns Up")

I was a big fan of the original cartoon and enjoyed how ridiculous the stories, "acting" (aw! Aw! AW!!

), and the names-
Race Car Driver = SPEED RACER
Girlfriend = "Trixie" (she turns "tricks" for "Speed"... just like modern putas)
Rex Racer = Racer X (sounds like "Racer, Rex")
Father = Pops Racer
Mechanic = "Sparky"
Chimpanzee = Chim-Chim
Little Brother = Spridle (don't get this significance)
Dectective = Inspector Detector

In this one there was a mom... Susan Sarandon... who I would still be all over in a NY Minute like she was in her trailer between shoots of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".

I think that this movie was made for people who LOVED this cartoon growing up. Otherwise, I don't think people would appreciate the story lines, simplicity, formula, and all of the classic characteristics that they brought to the big screen.

I recommend it to any guy who grew up with this cartoon, but I don't know if girlfriends, wives, kids, and people outside of that specific demographic will truly appreciate it.

If this movie didn't have Susan Sarandon or John Goodman in it I could have stomached it easier. The 2nd graders loved it.
