I loved this show as a kid. Anyone remember The Mammoth Car? Hope the movie doesn't suck. The Wachowski Bros. can hopefully make up for the 2 Matrix sequels.

Maybe the movie will answer some questions that have been hanging over my head the last 35 years.

Why does the Racer family have a monkey?
Who is Trixie and why does she hang around the Racer family so much? I thought she was a sister until she tried to put the moves on Speed. He ignores her like he is a homo but he gets all nervous when he's around other chicks and she gets all jealous.
We know the Mach 5 has all sorts of gadgets: periscope, special tread, cutting blades, things to make it jump. With all that added weigh the car has to weight twice as much as the other cars. It must get horrible gas mileage. How does he always win?

until this thread, i had never heard of anybody that actually liked the cartoon. maybe its something to do w/ my age (early 20's), but not a single one of my friends even liked the cartoon growing up.

I don't mean to hijack this thread so if I need to create a seperate one I will, but does anyone remember (of a fan) of Star Blazers?

I used to get free drinks for my imitation of a typical Speed Racer villain. They all talk like this: "SpeedRacermustbedestroyedatonce, Iwillpayyouhandsomelytodothejobbwahahahahah."

Speed Racer Was an improvement in the animation of the era, since western cartoons were in the dumps until the early 90's, and they never recovered until people realized they are not for 2 year olds (much less for kids) and Simpsons finally ended that stigma.

I saw part of the commercial, and besides thinking at first that it was somehow a remake of Tron, I am now convinced that this movie was made for, and will be exclusively marketed to, people with ADD.

It just looks like they tried to film it as an exact live-version of the cartoon series, to me, editing and all.

I grew up in Southeast Texas. We could get ABC, CBS and NBC out of Beaumont with an antenna and PBS out of Houston when the weather was just right. They'd show Speed Racer and Battle of the Planets in the 6 am slot on weekdays alongside the preachers and farm and ranch reports. As a kid, you knew these were the only cartoons you'd get until Saturday morning, so hell yeah, you'd get up. That probably explains developing a coffee habit at age 6.

I'm 38 and Speed Racer was the best when I was about 7 or 8. And yes, I remember the Mammoth Car.

I will watch this movie, but will wait it on Netflix or HBO.
