Back in the 40's, without massive TV and 'Net coverage, another fella got off the train in Austin, took one look at Bobby Layne (actually, it was more like a coupla weeks of 2-a-days), and got right back on the train... to Baton Rouge...

That fella's name was Yelberton Abraham Tittle.
 
In 1935 LSU got what was called the best recruit in the nation out of Texas:

Young Bussey

He made national news many times in High School
 
Wow, Y.A. Tittle. There's a name I hadn't heard in a while. He and Layne had some classic battles in the pros. They and Baugh were the top guns until that Unitas kid showed up.
