I had seen that elsewhere. Certainly generated some discussion. I think the more interesting part of the story is that Micki DeMoss will be his assistant. Some are thinking LaTech really wanted DeMoss for the head coach.
I think bringing in Mickie was a great move, it sort of soothes those of us who point to his lack of experience as a point of concern. Once is matures and shows that he can win games, then as the usual staff turnover accurs he can have more "risky" hires. As for now, him hiring experienced and proven coaches is absolutely the right move.
Still, you got to wonder why Micki bailed on Tennessee. You wonder if it might be as a favor to Pat and their long friendship. Maybe she feels the Tennessee program is on a downward spiral since Pat left and the A.D. there seems to be intent on dismantling the women's programs. Or, maybe she just wanted to go back to where her career began and ride off into the sunset.
iirc, Mickie left Tenn because she had a chance to coach in the WNBA. Don't know how that worked out. He may have hired Mickie because of familiarity and because of her experience. I don't think it will be long before she retires. But that is jmo. She might be there a long time.
