Spanish Air Traffic Controllers Make $500k...

Computers in the cloud would probably be better than controllers on the ground.

Cobble together an Amazon cloud app using the NOAA weather computer voice for cloud to pilot communication and routing.

I'm sure there are lots of phone based customer no service apps that can be slapped on top of software stack to be used for pilot to cloud communications especially when planes have to go into a holding pattern.

Use UV lasers driving 2D barcode readers attached to the tower for identification.

My cat likes to chase red laser beams, so planes can follow one traced out by the cloud computer while on the runways and taxiways.

Good lord!

Here I am busting my *** trying to build a company from the ground up with my own $$$ and I could have just gone to spain or Cali and earned 100-500K... Something just does not add up.

When I read the headline I wondered how many controllers there were. I mean, if there were 50 that'd be anout $10K apiece which seems about right for spain.

That's nothing. Consider this:

As of 2008, the average federal salary was $119,982, compared with $59,909 for the average private sector employee. In other words, the average federal bureaucrat makes twice as much as the average working taxpayer. Add the value of benefits like health care and pensions, and the gap grows even bigger. The average federal employee's benefits add $40,785 to his annual total compensation, whereas the average working taxpayer's benefits increase his total compensation by only $9,881. In other words, federal workers are paid on average salaries that are twice as generous as those in the private sector, and they receive benefits that are four times greater.

Similar issues exist at all levels of government. That's what happens when there's a monopoly and irresponsible public servants.

I find it a little hard to believe that the "average" federal employee makes 120K a year, plus 40K in benefits. I read the article you referred to, but I sure wish it had gone into a little more depth. I'd like to see what federal jobs went into the calculation of the 120K vs. what jobs went into the calculation of the 60K figure for private enterprise jobs. I'm pretty sure it didn't take into account all government jobs.
