Spaghetti Western

I long for the return of that restaurant. Everyone who comes back in town asks about it. Anyone knows who owns it? Thoughts about bringing it back?

My wife openly wept when they closed. It was her favorite restaurant.

In order to appease her, I have had to do my best to duplicate a couple of their recipes.

Spaghetti Western? I hope you dont mean Spaghetti warehouse. I despised that place.

Western was on South first, and made some awesome garlic mashed potatoes (although mine are better). There was a great deck, and it was very homey. Nice place to go on a regular basis that isn't Bennegins, Chilis or some other coroporate chain.

They made a great wagon wheels dish, with a bold meaty tomato sauce and goat cheese (pretty easy to duplicate, and a standard at our house), and a great poblano angel hair -- had a fried poblano pepper (I can't recall if it was a relleno or not -- it may have had cheese in it) with a simple vodka cream sauce. It kicked ***, and it wasn't too expensive for what was actually a pretty nice meal.

South 1st actually runs north-south as opposed to 1st St/Cesar Chavez which runs East-West. South First actually runs parellel of Lamar between S. Lamar and S. Congress.

Lets not talk about the 10 different Shoal Creek streets

I glanced at your post and thought you were asking where south first was and not where on. My apologies. It's still confusing if you're new to Austin

Thanks for the clarification, but I still don't know where it was.

I have been in Austin long enough to know where S. 1st is; I have lived in S. Austin for a few years and wondered if it was somewhere between Barton Springs and Ben White on S. 1st.

Now.... Where on S. 1st was it located?

It was between Barton Springs and Oltorf on the west side of the street. Somewhere near the car lot, I think a block or two south of it in fact.

Thanks for getting back on this matter.

Maybe where El Mercado is now? I know that space used to be Seis Salsas, but I don't know what it was before then.

of course, there are a ton of restaurant spaces in that stretch.....

Actually, I think it was on the east side of the street. There is indeed a Mexican restaurant there now, though I can't remember the name. It is not El Mercado.

Sorry about the mistake; I would assume that SW was located either where Jovita's or the neighboring former Mexican restaurant (I forget its name - it's now closed), those are the only restaurants on the E side of the street between Barton Sp. and Oltorf, as far as I can tell.

BTW, I really believe that I have extended this thread far beyond any usefulness. Sorry to anyone who reads this.
