South Congress Cafe

Visited South Congress Cafe last week and thought the food and service was very good (I believe it is owned by Trudy's). The menu is both diverse and unique, with excellent food prep. and quality. I had Panko crusted snapper with crawfish gravy and served with Guajillo mashed potatoes (awesome). My wife had an angel hair pasta dish. All dishes are served with fresh bread and the appetizer of calamari with orange ginger sauce was outstanding.

Overall, it is a place we're definitely going to go again and I'd recommend to friends...short walk down to the Continental Club for after dinner spot too. Can't beat good food and music.

Agreed. Next time you go you MUST try the sea bass. Also, it's a great place for brunch. Keep in mind that when they say something is spicy, they mean it!

I've been a couple times. My friends all love the place. I'm just not quite sold on it. The location is fun, the food is good, and I can't complain about the service. Maybe it just felt a little fake to me. Kinda like an artificial mix of indie culture and downtown condo owner culture. Perhaps that makes it a good representation of what Austin has become...

there are many things that are contrived in this town. south congress cafe is definitely not one of them. actually you should appreciate it for what it is. a nice cool restaurant that serves good to great food. leave it at that.

I loved eating with popped collars and hair product.

The food is good, but the "brunch" crowd, eeeek.

a little on the expensive side for the eggs benedict (or some version) that i got. but it was definitely good.
