South Austin Icon: RIP

Just got back from a call.
Swept up the remains of the Sandy's Frozen Custard sign on Barton Springs Road.
Young woman was cut off by some idiot driver and she swerved to avoid him...drove right into the sign.
How old was that sign, anyway?

I'll miss it as I stand in line for a delicious dipped cone.
*sigh*

Whew! I thought you were going to say the restaurant was gone. I know it's a loss, but at least it's only the sign. Could have been much worse. (Hope the driver's okay.)

I though this was going to be about a goat.

I'm sure Sandy's will replace the sign with a reasonable facsimile. I used to go to Sandy's at least once a week (usually Thursday for the special). I never liked them as much when they switched to Pepsi a few years ago. Haven't been in a long time, does anyone know if they ever went back to Coke?

Used to live by that place. Bullock mentioned it on the Daly show.

There were times when Sandy's had ten+ cars in their drive thru while Whataburger had two.

MaxBarnes -- as someone who lives 700 miles away & has been thinking about the Thursday special at Sandy's for the last 4 years -- wtf, you don't eat their hamburgers because you don't like the soft drink flavor? BYOS if you need to, but don't ignore the siren call of the frozen custard just b/c of the pepsi challenge.

I'm still pissed that they closed the Holiday House on the other end of Barton Springs with the alligator.
