Sound skips in and out out on my cable/HDTV

I have a Sharp 64U model 42" 1080p HDTV.

I have it hooked up to my HD cable box using component cables. I have my PS3 plugged in using an HDMI cable.

Lately I've had alot of issues with the sound not working from my cable on my HDTV. It skips in and out and sometimes won't come in at all. But the sound on my PS3 works, or at least seems to (when I'm playing COD4 or watching a blu ray).

The last time it went out completely I had to switch input on my TV to the PS3 (and the sound worked) and when I switched it back to the cable's input, the sound was working again.

This is what is confusing me... I don't know if it is my TV or the cable box or what.

Have your cable company swap out your cable box first, since that's pretty easy to do. If it doesn't fix it, you're not out any money or a whole lot of effort.

Yeah mine is Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000HD... so that's the problem? Do they carry other models? Or should I switch it out for another one? I have comcast.

Your cable signal strength is probably weak. Have the cable company come out to diagnose and fix the problem.
