Sotonye (Soso) Jamabo of Plano West has set an OV to us in the Jan 23rd weekend, following an OV to aggy this weekend. UCLA is generally said to lead for Soso with ND right behind them, but hard-recruiting from Texas and aggy was supposed to happen in the end, and it is happening just as expected! His rankings:
#17 on rivals (#3 RB recruit in the nation)
#18 on scout.com (#1 RB recruit in the nation)
#28 on ESPN as an ATH (#4 ATH in the nation)
#70 on 247sports
Which leads to a #27 on 247's industry average rating.
The ratings of Soso are a bit weird because nobody is sure which position to put him at. RB probably, but he is a super-good tall athlete (6-2, around 210) with a smooth running style and effortless play-making, which I think is also a reason why some say he is not a punishing type RB. In my opinion, an RB who has vision, a smooth running style and lateral athleticism does not need to be a punishing back to be a play-maker and game-changer. Despite some people arguing (and the 247 rating indicating just the same) that Chris Warren or Nick Brossette will be better pure RBs, I would first pick Soso because we need play-makers. He has great hands as a receiver too. Soso has the best upside among any recruit that we are in on.

You decide for yourselves. Damn, he is smooth as a player!
4-stars Chris Warren (down to mainly us and Washington with us leading) or Nick Brossette (LSU commit with a 50-50 chance to flip to us) may be better every-down running backs and the size at which Soso may play later also remains a bit uncertain, but landing a 5-star playmaker like Soso will be huge!
Recruiting of Soso has been unusually quiet which may also be because Texas and A&M may have wanted to not scare away other RB recruits, when neither is sure if Soso can be the primary RB. Soso himself may have known it and have kept things extremely close to the vest for anybody to know what he is thinking. There have been cases when I saw recruiting sites taking down posts about any contacts with Soso from Texas. Not sure who asked them to. But now that we are down to the last 2 weeks of visits, recruiting of Soso Jamabo is about to hit the news wires. Keep your fingers crossed. We have as much a chance on him as does UCLA, ND or aggy, if not better.
