No one is settling for anything but you know that already. We have great players and coaching staff. You are obviously not a fan so why come here and make these kinds of statements. Talking about the team is one thing, or even offering constructive criticism, but your only purpose is to be inflammatory and make rude comments. Please go away.
Have you people paid any attention to our game results against Baylor, A&M, OU Stanford, Tenn? Do I need to mention Missouri? You may embrace mediocrity, but I refuse to do so. So sue me.
We've lost some games but that doesn't mean anyone is embracing mediocrity. And for the record seven of our eight losses were to teams ranked in the top 18 in the RPI, and six in the top 10. This team has responded well to injuries and is getting better as the season progresses. We've won 6 of our last 7 and are in the mix for a top four finish in the conference, and first round bye in the Big12 tourney. We also have one of the best freshmen in the country and great recruits coming in next year. How about congratulating the team on their win instead of coming onto the board and pronouncing that they suck.
dallastx its not so much that Texas is a bad team. They will be just fine, success do not come over nite. You are talking bad about GG and the team is kinda sad.Yea I as a fan get mad sumtimes. But I dont get off the boat. Now as far as talent on the team.We do lack that in sum position. But I can see better recruits C.Fussell coming in. Its takes 5 - 6 years to build a program. Now if you think I am lieing look at G.Blair record when he 1st came to Texas AM and then go and look at K.Mulkey record at Baylor, when she 1st came. Now I will say this! I am not impress on how they let up when they get a big lead. And in order to be Elite. You have to play hard for 40 minutes. And that is not happen.Seeing how the end of the game unfolded,I can see how Missouri came back and beat us too. We let up too much!

I've seen the ladiies when things were good. What I'm seeing now is either poor coaching or lack of talent. I think we have the talent. I happen to know one of the very good players and I don't think it is all talent.
I have to wonder if some only look at a snapshot of the team in a particular point of time or actually look at the season and how the program improves from year to year.
Exactly Babhorn. You must follow the team in order to know whats going on. I do think we have a good coach in place. Now I have to be honest. We do not have a lot of talented players. We have ok players. But if they work hard, they would be good.If you look at sert players, you can tell whos have worked hard. C.Fussell has really worked on her game.Y.Anderson will hit sum bumps. But I like where she is going.K.Nash came back with a chip on her shoulder. She has really improved! I just dont see a lot consist play out of the Veterans. Now as far a Post or Center that we can call money with their shot.We dont have that. And we really dont have a true point guard. But C.Peoples will handle that spot next year.Wait to you see her play.OMG! We will have 2 centers next year.1 for Offense and 1 for Defense.Thats Small Forward Position is going to be a battle K.Brewer,A.Hartung,R.Major and Nneka. Now dont count out B.Sanders a Blue Collar Worker with great range and hustle. So what I am saying, its a lot to be excited for in the future. Then you will have your Seniors Y.Anderson,AT and A.Gayle back for their last year. Once again its going to be tough to beat Texas next year.

Gotta look at the Big Pic, dallas...
We got a whuppin' and got demoralized by Baylor, who also must have been a germ-laden bunch...the whole Texas team has been sick since the game...like needing IV's sick, OK?...plus worn out from Saturday, and NO rest in between....So, you may not want to be so quick to judge us on the off-night...
I can tell from your lack of posts you are new to this, and are a perhaps ignorant of the real picture, so I'll let go of the posts ....stay tuned, we just might surprise you, Northerner!
P.S. I always knew Waco was a nasty little town...now we know it's damn near deadly!!
Goestenkors accumulated an impressive record at Duke and is one of the most accomplished women's basketball coaches in the nation. She received recognition as the ACC Coach of the Year a record 7 times (1996, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2007). In the 2001-02 season, Goestenkors led the Blue Devils to the first undefeated regular season in ACC women's basketball history — a feat she would repeat two other times during her tenure at Duke (2003, 2007). During her final ten seasons at Duke, Goestenkors led the Blue Devils to NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearances every year, seven Elite Eight appearances, four Final Four appearances, and two appearances in the NCAA Championship game. During her tenure, her teams won five ACC tournament championships and eight ACC regular season titles. Goestenkors holds the ACC record for fewest games required to achieve 300 wins (387 games).

No it does not but past performance is the best indicator of future success. She didn't move to Texas and simply leave her skills at home. It takes time to build a program and we are all aware the program had fallen in the few years before G arrived. She made instant improvement getting back into the NCAA tourney. Look at the team that is planned for next year. There is your next leap forward.
Wow. Some haters come out. Thought I was on OrangeBloods for a minute there.
There are probably five teams that have any realistic chance of winning the national championship this year. I would give that nod to Baylor, UConn, Stanford, Tennessee, and aTm. (To this point Texas has five of their eight loses to that group.) It is a question of elite talent. Texas has very good players. Texas has very good coaches. But, to win championships you have to some players who are elite. Players like Griner and Moore change everything. Texas hasn’t had truly elite players for a while. There is no single reason to blame. It was a combination of things, some maybe avoidable and others bad luck. It’s kind of pointless now to worry about that. What is more significant is why Texas is still not up to our lofty “Texas Standards.”
There are simply not as many elite WBB players as you will find in most men’s sports. The supply is limited and they are pursued relentlessly by every D1 school. UConn, Tennessee, and Stanford have established themselves as the top destinations for these elite players over a long period of time. Those programs, by themselves, take a significant part of the top talent. Complicating matters has been the emergence of Baylor and aTm. Along with OU that puts three programs consistently among the best in the country not just in the same division of the same conference, but in the same geographical recruiting area. This all started before GG ever came to Texas.
Texas HS football players typically grow up dreaming of playing at Texas. Texas WBB players now typically grow up dreaming of playing at Baylor, aTm, or UConn/Stanford/Tennessee. That was not going to change just because GG showed up on the Forty Acres. Texas has plenty of players good enough to play for championships if you just added one or two elite players to the mix.
Women’s BB teams also do not turn over at the same rate as the men’s teams. Players show up for four years. This also slows the opportunity to start bringing in elite talent.
I’m not suggesting that anyone should accept mediocrity. Texas goals should be to compete for national championships. But, the period of time necessary to change a culture that had come to accept a lower standard, and change the perception of potential recruits is significant. The question you have to ask is if the Texas program is headed in the right direction. Is Texas closing the distance to the elite teams? Has the culture been changed, and what is the current perception of potential recruits?
This team has lost two, maybe three, games that they SHOULD have won. That is with half the team freshmen, and maybe the best player out for the year. No one at Texas ever wants to have a rebuilding year. But circumstances long ago dictated it was going to be necessary. That is what this year will continue to be. Looking at it with reasonable expectations it has been pretty darn successful. I want this team to play to win every game, and I think they do. But, they will not win championships because they don’t have the depth or experience to make long runs playing almost to perfection because they also lack the elite player to put them all on her shoulders and overcome mistakes.
The course of this season will be largely determined soon. Texas needs to win at least one of two from OU and ISU. Win both and the season suddenly looks much, much better. But, even if both games are lost it does not mean this season has been a waste.
Has the culture changed? Hard to say without actually being on the team. However, I see a team that plays hard, plays together, and never quits. That has not always been the case. Has the perception of potential recruits changed? Hard to be sure without being in that place yourself. But, Texas brought in an outstanding class this year, and brings one of the top classes in the country next year. Far from doom and gloom, there are positive signs.
We have one of the top freshmen in the country. Next year brings the return of Cokie Reed, addition of transfer Kayla Brewer, and an incoming McDonalds all-American. With two senior guards, and maybe more depth than any time in the last five years it should be fun to watch. I am not going to say, at this point, that the problems are fixed and GG should be the HC for the next 15 years. I am going to say that it is too early to make that determination. Next season is very important. I’ll wait until March 2012 to have a real opinion. If things continue the way they have I think many more people will be pleased.
And, it bugs me when people say that any of our teams suck. You don’t have to be sold on their physical talents. But, I think it is appropriate to show respect for the fact that they make a significant commitment, play hard and with pain, and are positive representatives of the University of Texas……Besides, if you pay attention you can see that they are actually all very good basketball players.
Coach G has good recruits coming in.We just have to be patient. And stop looking for a turnaround so quick. Once again, we allow the Baylor,Texas AM and OU to pass us before we decided to change Coaches. But next year will be Special.

Well said, Outlook, and I agree with much of what you say. As far as 5 of our 8 losses being to the elite five squads you mentioned, we also lost to current #10 and RPI #9 Michigan State, and lost to an OU team that has been ranked near the top 10 most of the season. So that's 7 of 8 losses to top ranked squads, including five top 10 and four top 5. As far as elite players making a difference, and being fewer and farther between among women recruits, I agree to a point. Obviously a Griner or Moore or Parker makes all the difference in the world, but there are also recruits who end up being elite who didn't come in that way, and I think we see that happening with Chassidy this season. When you look at who we have coming in next season combined with this year's class, and the return of Cokie, I definitely think we have the makings of a championship squad. And we have to remember that those eleven players....Reed, Fussell, Moore, Bass, Hartung, McCoy, Peoples, Enemkpali, Major, Brewer and Sanders, and going to be together for three years. I love the fact that such a large, diverse and talented group are going to develop as players, and as a team for a such a significant amount of time. I also believe that we have the most talented head coach, and staff, in the country. Gail has made 16 consecutive NCAA tournaments, including 13 straight at Duke. During those 13 seasons her squad never lost in the first round and made the Sweet 16 or better for 10 consecutive years, including 7 Elite Eights, 4 Final Fours and 2 NCAA title games. And while she certainly had some great players at Duke she didn't have any of the marquee names like Taurisi, Parker or Paris. One of her best players and stars was Alana Beard who wasn't even a top 20 recruit coming out of HS. That record of success is why she received 9 different national coach of the year honors during that timeframe. There isn't any coach in the country other than Geno and Pat that had a record anything close to hers during her final decade at Duke. No, she hasn't won a national championship yet, but she's going to at some point. It takes time to build a program but she and her staff are doing things the right way and have still managed to take us to the NCAA tournament for three consecutive seasons after a two-year absence prior to her arrival. We all recognize this season might have been better if Cokie hadn't been injured but we've responded well and are still closing in on 20 wins, and hopefully more. Our freshman class has been as good as we all had hoped, and next year's recruits will only make things better. And whether we make the NCAA tournament or not, or lose in the first round or make a run, I'm looking forward to what the future has in store.
I agree that if you don't follow the program, you have a difficult time seeing how things have played out up to this point.
As for recruiting, Coach G has done well at bringing in guards and wing players, but the frontcourt recruiting has not been up to par. Ashley Gayle has her strong points, but consistent offensive production is not one of them.
Cokie Reed missing this season is a huge omission, but that is why using the 15 scholarships allotted is a must, IMO. Injuries and attrition are going to happen. Roster depth is critical.
Power Forwards have not been a position where we have recruited well, regardless of the reasons. I can't believe we overlooked Carolyn Davis of Fort Bend Bush who is having a great career at Kansas. I'm not positive we didn't recruit her, but I never heard her name until she arrived in college.
Having an extremely early commitment from Post player, Jada Terry is great, but she can't sign her LOI until November 2012 at the earliest. Sometimes recruits change their minds and decommit during the recruiting process. Holding onto her commitment will be critical, but we still need another post player once Gayle departs.
When it comes to Coach G's backcourt recruiting, Ashleigh Fontenette and Chassidy Fussell are examples of great evaluations on kids who weren't very highly ranked on the various recruiting lists. We'll see if Brady Sanders falls into that category.
Overall, I'm just glad our roster size is increasing; hopefully, this will be the norm each season going forward.
some excellent points made by several posters in this thread. This team will continue to get better each season due to the influx of talent being signed by the coaches.
This season is really a study of determination to succeed by the players after losing their most talented offensive post. The future looks pretty good but right now the present is also looking good.
