OH MY GOD. I find it is becoming more and and more difficult to have faith that people, in general, are good. I fully realize that is an absolutely generic overbroad generalization, but stories like this are becoming more and more common.
 
Wow, that is disgusting. They should be "left" in a prison cell with the wrong cell mates..

You hear stories like this- and realize- not everyone has fully 'evolved'- some of us humans are just animals that have the ability to wear clothes and mumble a language.
 
Even stranger to me is that they left the body in the middle of the floor for three months. They couldn't bury it in the backyard or even drag it into the garage? Did a rotting corpse in the living room not bother them at all?
 
There is clearly something mentally wrong with the twins.

But to say they should be left in the company of hardened criminals, presumably to be assaulted and raped, is sick. Also, the decision to prosecute them for murder is asinine.

You raise a dilemma however- IF these twins are mentally retarded, or have some other related sickness- what do you do if they are a danger to society?

How could you trust a sick killer even in a hospital system under medication?

I am thinking aloud- but not claiming to have the perfect answer to a complex problem- but if someone is able and willing to kill innocent people- regardless of the background, perhaps they need to be behind bars forever. Is that a tragedy? Absolutely. Is it the fairest outcome for society overall? Probably.

Your acknowledgement that prison sexual abuse is rampant hardly justifies your wish that these twins (and how anyone can find them not somewhat mentally ill is beyond me) suffer that fate while in prison.

We have a long way to go in this country when people blithely suggest that the mentally ill should be confined to prison and subjected to anal rape as punishment for their sins.
 
After arriving and knocking on the door, one of the twins allowed the officer inside house, which was in "deplorable condition and smelled terribly.

That is probably an understatement. I can't imagine the smell, especially in the week that followed. Our tax dollars really shouldnt go to house these people in prison. They need to be put down.

This pathetic refrain is all too common amongst today's "compassionate" conservative, where the mentally ill are not even considered human, but merely beasts which should be "put down".

The above poster has all too often made ignorant posts, but this one takes the cake. On a human level, he is far below those whom he despises (the mentally ill).

you sound like a idiot. you havent examined them. i do not believe they are mentally ill. i mean, they may be a little different due to living with their mother for 48 years but that is a separate issue. you just went ahead and leaped all the way to..."they are mentally ill" because you cant imagine a human doing that. well, you would be wrong. much worse has been done by some very rational people millions of times.

What are the chances that they wanted mom's money to themselves and, being loser shut-ins beholden to an insular fraternal relationship, decided that she had lived long enough? They could be involved in an elaborate attempt to feign some sort of mental illness so as to get the bucks and sell the land.

that's the best part, they are not only innocent until proven guilty, they are also completely sane. do you want to discuss degrees of mental illness now? i think all people that believe in collectivism are mentally ill, it doesnt mean they do not know right from wrong. these idiots knew right from wrong, they claimed they didnt have the money to get her a funeral.

Lighten up people......this could all be solved by appointing a czar, creating a federal bureaucracy and funding it with borrowed money from the Chinese.

Also, has anyone seen this news (some psychologist testifying that mentally ill defendants are really ok to stand trial - this "psychologist" has been sanctioned)?

First we have

Innocent til adjudged guilty, but at the same time they need to be "put down" before the trial even takes place.
 
looks like i was wrong on their mental state. congratulations. we now get to spend about 400k a year to keep them housed in a high security mental institution.
 
Oh, don't congratulate me on that $400k cost (if that's even what it is), general. That's not the issue.

The issue was one's ability to assess the available information and form a conclusion.
