Looking for restaurants in the Sonoma area. Pretty much open to anything. Something similar to Mustard's would be cool. Thanks.

Stayed there a few years back and ate awesome Thai food at a small house just off the main square. It was really quaint and a local favorite. Other than that, drive to Mustards.

Cyrus in Healdsburg. It's touted as "The French Laundry of Sonoma" at half the price.

When we had dinner there last year, we had reservations at the Dry Creek Kitchen but cancelled them at the recommendation of a local wine merchant. We couldn't get into the dining room on such short notice but were able to order most menu items at the bar. Wow, wow, wow. It was outstanding. One memorable dish was the dessert, caramel "soup": kettle corn topped with kettle corn sorbet in a shallow rimmed bowl; a "cage" of Valrhona chocolate was placed on the rim; then you poured a small pitcher of warm caramel sauce over it and it became a caramel-y, chocolatey, popcorn-y bowl of goodness!

The chef/owner was sous chef at Gary Danko in San Francisco. Considering that the restaurant is located in a very posh boutique hotel (Le Mars), I half expected a very snooty attitude, but the service was warm and gracious. Reservations 2 months prior to your date; also on opentable.com. I've got March 15 marked on my calendar to call for our reservation this year!
