Songs That Bring Tears

I was searching for some music for the iPod and came across a few that bring tears to my eyes almost every time I listen to them.

Judy Collins - Amazing Grace
Royal Scotsman - Amazing Grace (bagpipes)
Ave Maria - not one in particular, but any well sung version
Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven (not so much any more as the first few times I heard it, but I get choked up when I have not heard it for a while)

None of these songs have any real significance to me in terms of attachment to any event or time and place, they are just well sung and evoke a great emotion. What songs have that effect on you?

Alot of people will say "Christmas Shoes" by NewSong (song was actually written by the band leader at my church, we rib him about it regularly)

Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin

This song reminds me of my dad who I don't see as often as I should. He once told me that song made him sad when he hears it too.

Bayerithe, Have you heard Patton Oswalt's bit on this song?. Really funny. I think the audio stream of it is on youtube.

definitely "The Living Years". I'm glad my dad has lived long enough for me to be able to tell him what a great guy he is. I was not the best son when I was younger.

"Love Without End, Amen" gets me too because as a Christian and a father of a young son, I truly now know what unconditional love is all about.

That stupid Rascall Flats song about the girl with cancer whose boyfriend shaves his head.

I have no idea why. I don't cry at songs or anything but that one manages to get me all the time.

Joni Mitchell - The River

Wings - Mull of Kintyre
(I was going through a pretty rough time after my mom passed away, and for some reason that song made me think of her.)

Elton John - Empty Garden (Hey, Hey Johnny)

Cat Stevens - Father and Son

Jim Croce - New York's Not My Home
(and others)

Cavatina. It's the guitar instrumental you hear during, "The Deer Hunter." It's a beautiful song, but always made me a bit sad to hear it. My Mom loved it and we played it at her funeral service. Impossible to listen to it now.

Reason to Believe - I prefer the Tim Hardin original, but for my mom and her friends, the Rod Stewart version bookmarked their divorces in the early 70's.

At Seventeen - Janice Ian

Marie - Townes Van Zandt

Ft Worth Blues - Steve Earle

That Sarah McLachlan song..."Arms of the Angels" I believe...anytime that ASPCA animal rescue thing commercial comes on, I either end up crying or changing the channel before I start crying.

if you're reading this by tim mcgraw

moments by emerson drive

these are the two newer ones that jump out at me right now.

I don't know about crying, but "butterfly kisses," once you're a father, it makes sense. "I will remember you" is sad too.
