something to do, Austin/Hill Country

So me and some friends are driving from Dallas tomorrow to eat BBQ.

We're going to be going through Elgin, Lockhart, Luling, and Llano.

He had intended on heading back to Dallas via Dublin and get some Dr. Pepper from their soda shop. But it turns out it closes at 5 and I don't think I'll get to Dublin in time.

So now I need another activity.

Preferably I would like to do something that takes a couple hours that we can do before getting to Llano. That would give our stomachs some recovery time so that we can eat some more.

I thought about going the other direction and checking out the Shiner Brewery or the Blue Bell Ice Cream place, but I don't think either place does anything on weekends tour wise.

There are two or three wineries out there. I'm not the best person to guide you, but some other people took us to one off 71 past the Pedernales and it was an alright time. Or, go by the Marina at the base of Lake LBJ and rent a boat for a couple of hours.

Every convenience store in Dublin sells the Dr. Pepper bottled at that plant.

I've also seen it at the convenience stores and grocery stores in Hico and Hamilton too.

I've been to the DP bottling plant and its gift shop.

Never taken a tour though, so maybe that's cool, but we didn't bother.

Thinking of something to do between Lockhart and Llano, you could visit the factory outlet stores in San Marcos or float the Guadalupe or the Comal.

Of visit Fredericksburg or Enchanted Rock on the way to Llano.

There's a bar where I always stop for a beer when I'm driving from Marble Falls to San Antonio on Highway 281 called the Shade Tree, between Blanco and Spring Branch.

Or you can float or canoe on rental equipment from Spring Branch, where 281 crosses the Guadalupe.

Longhorn Cavern is off Park Road 4 - about 3 minutes N of Marble Falls, 5 minutes W of 281.

W of Johnson City is the Johnson family homestead... y'all could visit the newly installed Lady Bird site.

turns out, nothing.

my car broke down outside of Georgetown. A pulley busted off and the belt fell off, so in about 30 seconds my battery went dead and my car overheated.

It was a 2 hour delay to get towed to a Chevy house and then get it fixed. Fortunately, the Hewlett Chevy place in Georgetown had their service department open until 1pm on Saturdays. We got there at 11:30, and they were able to fix it and get me on the road again in about an hour.

But the delay set us back on the schedule, so we only ended up eating Southside in Elgin and City Market in Luling, and then went back to Dallas.

So we cancelled Llano and the drive up to Dublin...
