Something I thought I’d never say

In all my years of watching Longhorn football (I’m 62 and was a baby in my mother’s arms at DKR’s debut in 1957), I’ve never said this.

I expect to lose. I expect my team to lose.

And I don’t even feel guilty saying it.

I had already taken this one "to the bank" and didn't even consider watching...now, I see the score, 21-3 and wonder.....HOW BAD DID IT GET???

I went to the prediction game thread yesterday and I started to make a post. The post said I could not pick against my horns, but I also with any conscious or intelligence pick the horns as I thought they were a massive long shot to win. Then I canceled the post, because I didn't want to post negatively in the prediction thread. It's hard to have any optimism when you are consistently out-coached. We do desperately need to win out somehow to have even a little recruiting momentum. Just praying we get lucky with Tech and the (toilet) bowl game.

This staff is every bit as bad as the last one.

Hurts, but it’s true
Not true. Our DC, though I have issues with his scheme, is twice as good as the last one. Our defense was pathetic with Bedford. Aside from a so called "culture" change Herman is as bad as Charlie, but Charlie's last OC was half way decent.

LOL.

many in that thread had the outcome correctly predicted.

I only missed ONE game in my ESPN pick! ... with 97% of the remaining ... ah ... pickers. (booger, cotton ... IDK which)
On post said I could not pick against my horns....
Sorry that was poor English and was ambiguous...I meant my cancelled reply included a statement to that effect not the prediction thread. I recognize that many feel fine and I have no argument with them to be able to pick against the horns. Just for me personally, I have a policy about it. It was sad to be fairly certain the horns would lose against a Baylor program that has risen from the dead.

Viper the elephant is how many players won’t be in the room - regardless of any coaching changes. I keep thinking of the Young’s and KJohnsons who’ve worked all season to ride the bench and watch what we’ve all seen.
Btw no one answered about my question of not seeing Kirk on the bench. Anyone else see him or know what’s up with that?

I agree DS, but it will not happen as the coaches want the extra practice days. However, the elephant in the room will be how many of those coaches will be with the team at the start of spring practices?
Extra practice days to do what, exactly? They’ve done absolutely nothing with the days they’ve already had.

Maybe they should be coaching under the same expectation as the players:
"You're playing/coaching for your job." How bad do you want to keep it?
The motivation should be very high for the coaches. A very, very nice salary while living in Austin, TX. A similar job in Waco or Fayetteville, AR just ain't the same.

Friends, our team sucks in every way this year. That is a fact. There is no other way possible to describe such a sad season. Tech will beat us in front of a home crowd. Why? Because they want to win -- to beat the vaunted Texas Longhorns. Our guys, team and coaches, just want to go into hibernation until next season. It sucks.

No it is not. The defense has returned to its former competent self as the injured first stringers have returned. Devin Duvernay, Keontay Ingram, Jake Smith, Brennan Eagles, Roschon Johnson, Cade Brewer, Daniel Young, Kirk Johnson, Collin Johnson, Sam Ehlinger, Derek Kerstetter, Chris Naggar, Buchevski and Cameron Dicker do not suck.

What is most perplexing to me is how the offensive line has gone from a dominating strength early in the season to a critical vulnerability late in the season. After the non adjustments at OU, through Baylor, the are now bullied and shown up by every DL they play. The question is why? Herb Hand is the coach and I think he is a good coach, but has the OL lost its confidence?

I do know without an effective OL, no team can win no matter how well the other two aspects of the team play.

The defense has allowed 24, 23 and 24 points in last three games, that should be good enough but the offense has gone completely off the rails. Tech does not have the defense the last three opponents have had and for that reason Texas should and probably will beat Tech.

Meanwhile, only arrogant fans talk about declining a bowl invite. There are a million reasons to go and only arrogant fan angst to not. This team can still finish 8-5, its not what any of us wanted but it is a third straight winning season and will mean holding on to a recruiting class that is badly needed. Texas is at a crossroads and next year Herman will be coaching for his job so these next two games remain very important if only because they will set tone for an off season that will either pave way for Herman to right ship or pave way for new staff in 2021.

FW,

I am a big believer in what Bear Bryant told Fred Akers, when he said something to like "If they want you, you're not too good to say yes".

I wonder, however, if this team needs time away from this coaching staff.

In the meantime, I'm going to have Dion instruct me in changing my screen name to "arrogant fan".

:beertoast:

I have yet to do to this staff what I did to David's when I publicly offered to make a donation to any major school that would hire anyone off that staff, but I upped it to $10,000 to any major program that hired Amadee.

That was a ridiculously poor staff.

FWIW, Amadee wound up at Eunice HS after several months of fighting, which almost cost the superintendent his job.

I did have to write a check to OU after they hired Clarence "you want me to go into what neighborhood to recruit" James.

I think there is some serious personal dysfunction with the o-line group. Braun's behavior at Baylor is an indicator of that dysfunction IMO. And I'm not saying that just based on what happened at Baylor. I've seen several games now where he's been caught on camera mouthing off at the officials.

I'm not at all trying to make some grand statement that he's the sole reason the o-line has blown chunks lately, but it is definitely a symptom of something much deeper.

Was the OL coach the one getting the chewing from Herman after our double 15 yard penalty? I just happened to look at the sidelines and he was in the face of the guy with the light colored beard. Is that the line coach, name starts with a ‘W’ but I cannot remember it exactly.
