Some Final 4 thoughts from SA

1. Memphis is an NBA team. They just overwhelm you with their athletes. They didn't even play that well last night and still outclassed UCLA by a wide margin. There is no shame in losing to those guys. I think they are going to crush Kansas on Monday. I hope I'm wrong -- I'd like to see at least one good game this weekend.

2. The UCLA fans seemed really bitter. Three straight final fours and nothing to show for it. I wish we had such problems.

3. For KU, beating Roy Williams seemed more important than winning on Monday. Hell hath no fury like a Jayhawk scorned, apparently. Needless to say, the KU folks were damn happy last night. Very eerie and cool to hear Rock Chalk Jayhawk while walking on the bridge between the dome and downtown that goes under the freeway -- it's kind of a tight space with a low ceiling and it echoed through there.

4. The Memphis girls walking around downtown and the riverwalk were the best looking. Better than UCLA. Better than UNC. To me, that was a huge upset.

5. They should host the Final Four here every year. Say what you will about SA as a city, but no other place (with the possible exception of New Orleans) in the country is set up as well to host an event like this.

6. Nobody was selling tickets before the games. You can probably get all you want for Monday night now, but that was a tough ticket yesterday.

7. Thank God for the suites. It's beyond me that they don't sell beer at these things.

Yeh I watched the games on my couch. NC closed the gap for a short minute or two but other than that both games weren't all that close. Was expecting better and damned sure am expecting a better final.

It's so very cool that San Antonio is part of the Final Four rotation. It's probably one of the best cities there is at hostijng events like this. I'm always proud of my hometown when I see these Final Fours. What is this, the second or third FF that's been in SA?

Third FF in SA. It will remain on the rotation because it's widely agreed as one of the best locations for the FF. I agree with you, I am very proud of SA when these things roll around.

This is my 9th Final Four, and the Saturday ticket is always a *****. The worst I've ever seen was Charlotte in 1994. I believe that was the last time the finals were played in a conventional basketball venue, and there was absolutely nothing to be found. San Antonio and New Orleans are the best host cities by far. Minneapolis was the worst. Simply terrible.

I've only been to two Final Fours, New Orleans and San Antonio. New Orleans wins hands down, although SA has too be a lot better than some of the other sites.

I did 95 Seattle and it was awesome.

Dont imagine they will have one there again since basketball is gone in the emerald city. damn shame.

been to a lot of cool events but I am a big fan of the Final Four.

The people involved directly with the final four, I.E. the coaches, media, NCAA people etc. will tell you that SA absolutely hands down is the best place for the final four. I have lived here all my life with the exception of 7 years in Austin (oh, how I wish I was still there) and I just see SA as an above average city with good food and nice people. But, from others around the country (and probably more so from non-texans) all I hear is how much they love SA. Our Downtown is very unique and contains quite a bit of history which I think draws a lot of people. Furthermore, everytime there is an event like final four, big 12 championship, etc. the tourism industry does a tremendous job of making people feel at home and providing a unique experience. SA has really grown is actually a very pretty and hospitable city.

For tourists San Antonio is an absolutely perfect place for an event like the final four. Riverwalk, The Alamo and the other Missions, Fiesta Texas, Sea World, Golf, etc.

I'd like to see SA host the Final Four every year and make that a tradition - kind of like the marriage Omaha still has (and thank GOD we still have it) with the College World Series.

I agree that SA has a unique and entertaining downtown that is well suited for hosting events such as the FF. Outside of downtown though,

San Antonio is just like any other mid size city. It has some undesirable areas but just as many nice areas. There is a reason it's growing and why many very large companies are HQ'd here. If you want to be surrounded by white people then I can see how someone would find it horrible and disgusting. The relatively low level of douchebaggery is a huge plus compared to the Texas cities to the north.

I like visiting San Antone. Now that I'm married, I think it would be a decent town in which to live. San Antone has enough things to do -- close to South Texas hunting, close enough to coastal fishing, close to Austin, and close to Hill Country.

But there is no way I would live there if I was single. You have to compete with 200 other dudes for every decent looking single chick

Houstonearlers, if you ever move to or come close to SA, don't ever say "San Antone" or you'll be classified as a visiting nitwit (It's San Antonio, except in some songs) . Only foreigners use that expression, akin to Frisco and LA, neither of which are acceptable to the locals there or here.

I lived in Houston from 1990-1999; SA since then.

I remember reading about illegal immigration from Mexico; surprised me at first but not after reading further --- the highest number of illegals going to one city from Mexico is to HOUSTON, not SA, for now obvious reasons.

Houston is a much more industrial city with higher paying jobs for those with skills beyond just construction.

SA has been/still is to a certain extent dominated by military, tourism, and "soft" industry (mercantile, etc., though the Toyota plant should begin to change that a bit).

So, if you're crossing the Rio Grande and you can run a drill press, you're probably going to Houston, not SA.

Just what I read.
