What is the advantage of using solar screens versus window tinting? Do solar screens allow the same amount of air to enter the house, i.e. are the "hole" smaller. I'm building a house (in SA) and have some rooms with western exposures.

window tinting will not allow you to open the windows and still keep the heat out window tinitng will not stop the uv light as effectively as the screens suntex 80 will block about 75 % of uv rays suntex 90 will lock about 83 % of the uv rays for the most part yes they are just screens except you can block the suns "dangerous" uv rays 100 percent of the time while enjoying the breeze. costwise they are not overly expensive you can get them (at least from me) for .45 a united inch

formula for pricing is width+ length (rounded up to the next inch) x .45 add tax and you have the price installed

example 30 1/4 w + 54 1/2 l =86 inches x .45 = 38.70 + tax each window

Brak,
i have solar screens on two of my windows and have been very pleased with them. they've really cut down my A/C bills, and sitting in my west-facing room in the afternoon/evening is much more pleasant. I had not heard great things about tinting - doesn't last as long, not good if you open the windows, etc.
