What software should I use to make a slideshow that goes along with music?

Powerpoint (or Presentation if your using the open source version of office)?

Powerpoint will get you by for basic transitions. If you want a little more eye candy, use Windows Movie Maker.

In Windows 7, Microsoft Movie Maker works REALLY well and it is super easy. It works in Windows XP as well but there is just a little more manual tweaking to do.
