So who are we supposed to root for with 3 B12 teams still in CWS?

i want nothing but big XII teams remaining, i don't care. TCU and Tech have never won it, i'm not sure about OK st. but they've been there a lot. all of them have texas high school kids on their teams so any of them is fine with me.

Either Tech or TCU is fine with me as long as Oklahoma State in the other dugout.

Arizona reminds me of the classless, mouthy teams of Frazier

Lots of people are pulling for the "little guy" to upset everyone. Not many are aware that they were a satellite campus of South Carolina for many years for marine biology, kinda like Galveston is to the Cesspool on the Brazos.

If this was the pre-whoring CWS, I'd be all over oSu because they have the deepest set of arms.

Okie State has never won it either.

TCU now that Tech is eliminated. I've been around long enough to remember the Gary Ward days of OSU, so they can go ahead and lose now as far as I'm concerned.

Tech did what Tech does in all sports, almost then -
...and it's finally normal again out here on the south plains. EVERY newscast was "tech baseball this...and that, tech practiced today." One weather team would only give forecast for Omaha, didn't give local. Thank goodness they are irrelevant again!

Coastal Carolina all the way!

I'm always for the team that a title win would least damage us going forward.

Way I see it when conf opponents (or even traditional powers) win a NC, it raises their national regard and desirability to play for.

This boost in credibility elevates recruiting allure and strengthens their pitch.

No Aggy logic here, it's either Texas or bust. CCU won't steal any future UT targets.

No, Coastal Carolina won't steal any recruits from Texas, but the majors will use the conference's failures to negatively recruit against us.

Is there anyone on either Tech or TCU rosters that Augie even recruited? I'll give him a "pass" on Baker because everyone was sure he'd follow his father to A&M.

I don't see how the majors can realistically slam a conference after 3 of 8 (38%) teams made the CWS...and 2 of 4 (50%) made the semifinals.

Don't go the Big 12 because they have really good teams but can't win the big one? I wouldn't want a kid who assumes because you lost in the CWS you couldn't get over the hump next time with his added talents.

Pro players who lost in the CWS would scoff at claims it wasn't a thrilling experience and honor just to play in it.

Failing to win the CWS doesn't dilute the conf success of basically owning the CWS field. It takes a special team and usually even a few lucky breaks in Ohama to win it.

Why would a kid raise his interest in a team that didn't even qualify for the postseason because a team they play won it all?

However, championship hardware can sway a mutual recruit away from a lesser conf program.

In fact, Texas being the only Big 12 team who played in the CWS title game (4 times, 2 wins) in the last 22 years remains part of our draw.

Brad,

Play all the statistical games you want, I did that in recruiting for years. Bottom line is that college recruiters use their own set of stats to make them look good. The fact that we play in a "weak conference" was evidenced in the selection committee's choices and assignments for the tournament. Perception is not reality, but it often supersedes reality. Our new coach, when and if he ever gets here, will do battle for some Cali-pruneya players, but mostly Texas kids and some out of the deep South. Playing in a strong conference with great exposure, other than on YouTube on steroids, and playing top competition is a strong recruiting tool. Back in the day, I had two letters that I called my "stat letters" which my secretary would personalize and send to recruits designated by Fred and Gus.

All that said, I don't see anyone on the rosters of Tech, TCU, or oSu that we lost in a recruiting battle regardless of wins.

I can see how we haven't lost out on any recruits on their current teams...none of those programs (TTU, TCU, or OSU) have YET to win a CWS title since 1959 OSU.

Even on rough times Texas still didn't have a Big 12 equal in terms of fairly recent titles going into past recruiting cycles.

I can't concede a CWS title wouldn't crown TCU hands-down the new power program of the Big 12 and Texas baseball.

Already making their postseason mark lately, a title would propel their legitimacy to a level they've never experienced and become a real recruiting threat to us.

Up until now TCU has been successful recently, but accomplished nothing more than we did back in 2014...a CWS title would add a whole other level of national status.

I will agree to disagree on this, even though I don't discredit all you're saying or you're experience with it.

On a somewhat related note, elimination game twixt oSu and Arizona, 2 of top 10 or so all-time in CWS history, winner gets to championship 3 game series, 3 pm, pretty Saturday afternoon, and the stadium is about 25% full. WTF?

Upon closer analysis, about 10%.

Must have been true that UT built a strong local following during Gus's years, Rosenblatt was packed when the Horns played, of course huge migration from Texas to Nebraska for the week as well.

Looks like our third base coach showed up for oSu. HORRIBLE!

Overthrow from RF to second with one out hits the bag and rolls out into shallow left field with SS covering second. Meanwhile third base coach is having a nice chat with the runner about the weather. Omaha bus driver could do better.
