So Where does Mitt Stand on Abortion?

Flip, flop, flip, flop ....

"There is no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda."

-- Mitt Romney to Des Moines Register editorial board

"Governor Romney would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life."
-- Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul, clarifying

"The actions I'll take immediately is to remove funding for Planned Parenthood. It will not be part of my budget. And also...I will reinstate the Mexico City policy which keeps us from using foreign aid for abortions overseas." ------- Romney, the next day

So, it seems our 2 major choices change their minds quickly. Barry is on record changing his stance during the same interview vs mitt taking a day or two. Why isn't your boy Gary out pushing and fighting to campaign to save us all?

BI
As a libertarian is this an important issue for you?
is it important enough to influence your vote?
Oh wait you aren't voting for either of the 2

He stands where Obama stands on gay marriage. In other words, he plays flippy-flop according to the relevant constituency.

Jeez. if this is the best you have then Romney is a shoe in.

I dont even see why you think it is a flip flop. Romney says abortion legislation is not part of HIS agenda. That means that Romney isnt going to push anything personally. If legislation is pushed by other folks in congress he says he would support it. That is not inconsistent at all.

As to planned parenthood and the other, it is part of his cost cutting. There will be affects of cost cutting on just about every service. That doesnt mean any particualr ancillary item, like abortion, is specifically targeted.

Finally, Romney thinks abortion should be a state issue anyway, and I agree. And, for the record, I am generally opposed to abortion and very pro adoption but I donot think Roe vs Wade should be overturned.

It is funny that our libertarian friend BI posts about 50 degrading posts on repubs for every one on the dems.

as a very pro-life person, i am not satisfied with Romney's position on abortion, but it is miles and miles beyond the most pro-abortion president we have ever had. it isn't even close. look at what Planned Parenthood says bout Romney and you will see he is not exactly a pro-abortion candidate. but is he soft on the issue? yeah, i think he is.

Romney is pro life. He said he is not aware of any substantial legislation being proposed regarding abortion. As far as that goes, neither am I. This issue has been pretty much locked up in the courts as a result of Row v Wade since 1972. The states have passed laws to regulate the practice of abortion, but of course it remains legal in all 50 states. The only role that the federal government has is to debate whether or not the federal government is going to pick up the tab and pay for people's abortions with taxpayer dollars (or money borrowed from China).

This is yet another effort by the left to distract us from discussing the major issues that are facing our country. Apparently they feel like the "Big Bird" distraction has just about been milked for all it is worth. So apparently, this is what is next.

I love it. Mitt on abortion in 2002:
The Link

"I don't accept either label ... pro-choice or pro-life."

Mitt in 1994:

"I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years that we should sustain & support it."

In 2002, Mitt said, "I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose. I would not change any provisions of Massachusetts' pro-choice laws"

Deez- I pretty much agree with what you posted. If Roe had turned into more of precedent setting case regarding state's rights than it has, then an overturn might make more sense. I do not follow the rulings ofthe court nearly as much as I suspect that you do. But, I havent heard many arguments that Roe set any state's rights precendents. It pretty much just took abortion off the table.

If, in fact, Roe does serve in some capacity to alter future state's rights cases, then I might be more inclined to work towards a reversal.

From a purely political standpoint, it is just a tough issue. There is so much blind rage behind the hard liners on both sides that it has become a win or lose personal battle as opposed to actual meaninful legislation that helps the country.

And again, bi guy side steps the $1M question - where's your boy Gary Johnson and why isn't he fighting to get his name and views to the forefront of Americans?
bi, maybe you should put more effort into lighting a fire under the frozen feet of your party members than you do by coming to a sports forum and pointing fingers. And yes, that's all you've got
