So, this morning, I thanked God for unanswered prayers

Yep. The NFL and the College game are 2 entirely different animals.

Mackovic would have been well suited to be an NFL coordinator. His college coaching was mostly a wreck, absent a few good years with us, and a few good years with U of I.

Good college coaches who failed in the NFL (there are many, many more): Spurrier, Saban, Chip Kelley, Lou Holtz, etc...

He was the HC of the Chiefs. Landry actually gave him a glowing recommendation after being the QB coach for the Cowboys, which says a lot about how the game used to be coached. Verbal abuse was kind of just expected.

For as good as he was with QBs and offenses, he was plagued by QB indecision in the NFL. The Hunt family was giving him a ton of crap over playing Todd Blackledge because they supported veteran Bill Kenney. But Blackledge was the media darling who they used a really high draft pick on. His 1986 Chiefs team was actually pretty salty, and Lamar Hunt actually gave him a contract extension before firing him two weeks later. It was... strange.
Mackovic Says Firing Caught Him by Surprise

Sounds a lot like how his tenure at Texas and Arizona ended. Lots of accusations from players about chemistry.

Lincoln Riley would do absolutely fantastic in the NFL. Within a decade, he'll be considered the next Lombardi. Same thing with the (former) Mullet.

Jimbo, on the other hand, couldn't win more than 2 games per year at anywhere but A&M. He has aggie written all over him. He should stay there until his contract runs out. (not that any NFL team would make him any offers).

Speaking of ags, Coach Sherman was a very good OL coach, but a lousy college head coach. That's where he should have ended up his coaching days--an OL coach in the NFL.

Doesn't look like aggy is ever going to allow that. They love bidding against themselves.
