So Many Blowouts

After the Tech game got to thinking about how many blowouts this team has accosted our enemies with. I don't remember a RB team with this many ugly blowout wins.

If I'm not mistaken, up until two years ago, blowouts were the norm against not-so-good opponents. I remember thinking last two years, "How come we don't get any more blowout games? Why does every game come down to the last five to ten minutes?" Granted those blowouts from 2+ years ago weren't 30+ point varieties, more like 20+. Still the outcome of those games were never in question. It's good to have them back. In my opinion, the difference is that the current team doesn't take the foot off the pedal even when they are 20+ points up.

There's been a lot of blowouts, but there's also been a couple of touch-and-go games that probably should've been blowouts. Heck, just two weeks ago, our 'Horns squandered a 15-point, first-half lead and allowed Coppin State to rally and tie the game with about 13 minutes to play.

Rice was also uncomfortably close.

So here's a quirky fact: our Longhorns have trailed for a combined 150 seconds in six of their last seven outings.

That's 237.5 minutes with a lead or tied out of a potential 240 minutes, or 98.96 percent--that's almost as pure as Ivory, folks!

Texas trailed for a total of 55 seconds at Michigan State and 1 minute, 35 seconds at Texas Tech. What an amazing stretch of basketball.

Not just another blowout, but another coast-to-coast lead for our 'Horns. They never trailed against Missouri, either.

I love this Texas team but I wonder what would Texas record be if they played in the Big East? That is by far the best conference in basketball. I think they could compete but they would not be 7 - 0. Right now Texas is 0 - 2 against the Big East. At the current time I think Texas is one of the best in the nation but in a week or 2 that could change. Texas goes undefeated in the Big 12 then they deserve to be # 1 IMO.

Turgeon said after the game:

"I've been doing this for 24 years as an assistant and a head coach, and I haven't seen many teams as good as Texas. They were fantastic.”

High praise. I'm starting to get my hopes up too high.

This is about Balbay and Johnson as much as anything. These guys are leading this team and everyone is feeding off their defensive intensity. We weren't playing the aggies last night in the 1st half. The guys were playing against each other to stay on the floor and show what kind of D they could play. Hamilton was fantastic on D last night. Wang was too. Everyone is just stepping up their games to match the intensity that our seniors are showing.

I've been a Texas basketball season ticket holder since 1982. This season is going to make it tough to play close games again. Now, it's like I get nervous when we are only up by 9.

I wanted to revisit this thread with some updated statistics that will reflect just how dominant our Longhorns have been these past few weeks.

Most recently, Texas has not trailed or even been tied in its last four outings (not counting the initial 0-0 score, of course). That's right--in each case, the Longhorns have grabbed an early lead and never looked back for four consecutive games.

Looking back even farther, all the way back to the Dec. 22 contest at Michigan State, Texas has trailed for a combined 302 seconds in 11 of 13 games. That's five minutes out of a possible 440, or 1.14 percent. (This stretch does not include the overtime loss to UConn or the road win over Kansas, but it does cover victories at MSU, Tech, OSU, aggy and OU, and home wins versus arky, aggy and Mizzou.)

I don't know if this will wind up being the best Texas team ever, but it certainly has been the most dominant. I can't recall the Longhorns ever looking better.

UT basketball has become boring. I like boring

Tonight's 73-55 victory over Okie Lite makes it six consecutive games that our 'Horns have never trailed and led wire to wire (OSU did briefly knot the score at 2-2).

I hope the horns pour it on Nebraska next. Winning by double digits is good, but let's try to win by triple digits.

I really don't like NU.
