So it's that time (hd lcd)

Our old rear-projection hd tv is going out and we're in the market for an lcd tv. We are thinking somewhere in the 40-46" range and probably don't want to spend more than $1500. I REALLY like Samsung products and there are a few good tv's to choose from. However, I'm seeing some good things about the line of Vizio's that have come out. So, with those parameters, any suggestions? Thanks.

720 or 1080? If you want 1080, your budget will get you a 40" Samsung. I don't believe they make anything between 40" and 46" in lcd, so it's 40 or 46. If you go 720, you might be able to find a 46" Samsung if you hunt around online. Amazon.com has crazy deals. Free whiteglove shipping and no tax is hard to beat. Their prices are lower than stores to start out with also. I have the 40" Samsung LNT4071F. It's a really good tv. It's usually around $2,300. I got it from amazon for $1,600. They have it now for $1,700. It's 1080p with 120 hz refresh rate and a 25,000:1 contrast ratio. If you want to spend a little extra, you won't be disappointed.

I can't help you with Vizio's, though I have heard the same as you.

I read up on it and it sounds like a good one. It's a new model that came out this year. It's $1,179.98 from Amazon. I know I sound like a broken record, but the lcd prices on amazon are the best I've found anywhere and it's not really close.

This is the TV I have...the Samsung LN-T4665F. It is wonderful, and Amazon has it for $1600 right now. They also have a 30-day price match guarantee. I bought it last summer for ~$2000 and a week later it was ~$1900 and they gave me the $100.

I will second the Amazon recommendation for the same reasons as above. Free delivery, no tax, and a (usually much) better price than any brick-and-mortar retailer will give. Plaus, if you buy on your AMEX, the 1 year manufacturer's warranty becomes a two year warranty (although, this is true no matter where you buy it).

If you are in Austin and you are interested I have a Samsung LNT4061 that I could do for 1147.00. Let me know if you are interested.

i just bot a 32" samsung LCD off amazon. best price anywhere, including sams. free shipping. no tax. would buy it again in a heartbeat.

in my view, 1080p is not worth the extra $. its not in the HD spec and thats 99% of what you will probably be watching.

No televisions signal is broadcast in 1080p, they're all 720p or 1080i. Only blu ray and game consoles can output in 1080p right now. We're still a good ways off from 1080p over the air broadcasts because of bandwidth issues. On a set the size you are talking about, you won't be able to tell much of a difference if you are sitting more than 5 feet away. I still went with 1080p because I'm weird like that when it comes to electronics. 1080p really starts to stand out when you get to 50" televisions.

hornian has a Vizio and the last time we spoke about it he was still very pleased with the tv and the cost.

There's not doubt there's a difference, but you're also talking about a substantially larger and more expensive tv than he's looking at.

I went and looked at those Samsungs last night and compared them to Vizios and one Westinghouse. I have to admit, the Samsung looked heads and shoulders better than either of those two.

Without going into too much detail, a 120hz refresh rate will reduce motion blur. Personally, 120hz on Sony's XBR5 line makes the picture look a little odd. GREAT for sports, but movies look too unrealistic--almost as if the movie was being fast forwarded at 1.5x speed. That being said, I think I remember reading somewhere that you can play with the refresh rate settings on Samsungs (and probably on Sonys) to reduce this problem.

A TV's response time represents the time it takes for the TV to display the signal upon reception. This is important when gaming (or at least, important for gamers who play at a skill level where a few milliseconds difference in reaction time matters).

I have a Maxent 42inch Plasma TV I bought at Best Buy over a year ago.
It has been great and is in my living room. I only spent $1000 on it and think I got away with a steal. Not a name brand but that doesn't matter to me.

I was thinking about mounting a TV on my wall in my room because I just got a king size bed and I need to get rid of some furniture (No space left)

I perused this thread and have 2 options as I see it:
1) Mount my current 42 inch in my bedroom, then buy a new bigger name brand TV for around the same $1000-$1500 range.
Which one should I get? Money is really the only factor but I would like either Plasma or LCD.

2) Buy a 32 inch LCD or Plasma to mount on the wall in my room and keep my 42 inch in the living room.

what do yall think?

If you live in austin and know a samsung employee they can get you a discount. if you dont know one, send me a pm.
