any ideas on how to fix this? goddammit.

The part is one the door jamb so replacing the ******* door is not the answer (and is what i'm doing any how). How does one get a stripped screw out without destroying everything?

Drill it out? Find a metal bit somewhat smaller than the diameter of the screw and have at it. The threads should bust off and you'll be able to get them out. If you need to re-use the same hole, you'll probably have to fill it with epoxy or wood glue and run a new screw in there. After that, you hope it holds.

well, it just needs to hold for a few more months, as we're selling the house. i just don't want to make another ******* trip to home depot

OK, not really. But we're probably moving west of Austin a bit. Sometimes it SEEMS like we're moving to Nagasaki.

If you're really moving to Japan . . . huh?

Why? (Not that it's necessarily a bad move. Most people I've spoken with who have lived in Japan loved it. My cousin dropped out of Emory to teach English in Japan for a semester. He ended up staying for two years, and would come back to the States for about one semester in three. He ultimately married a Japanese girl and moved there permanetly. It definitely has a certain "pull" for some people.)

wife got a job offer teaching english. basically a raise for her, with a subsidized apt. i can easily get a job teaching as well, and we'll be able to save a ton of $$$, pay off ALL of our debt, and be ready to have little brats when we get back. last chance for something this crazy, so we have to do it.

After you take out the screw, drill a hole and jam wood dowel in it (with wood glue). You can then epoxy over it and paint it. It'll work so good that you might just say **** Japan.

not "high paying"

but they need native english teachers. there is high demand. most jobs just require native english speakers. experience in jananese is rarely expected nor required. but the minimum required pay for teachers over in japan is 250000 Y a month. and with the tax rate (8% or something), it's high paying. so to speak.
