So, I need your opinions

The Basketball Band Director, Dr. Talley spoke with me and wants to help create more fan involvement at games (outside of clapping to Texas Fight and March Grandioso). The band is trying to think of ways to get the crowd more into games. We feel that whatever we try to do, student involvement will be extremely key in getting it to spread, however all ideas will be taken into account.

Please list songs, ideas for cheers, anything, to help get the crowd more involved at games. Thanks.

You can never go wrong with playing and making as much noise as possible.

Also, I think it would be really neat if, for one big home game this season, the entire Longhorn Band--all 350+ of them--shows up and plays.

Find out what songs to O Zone wants you to play. Certain songs will get them more hyped or crazy. Songs off the top of my head that I would love to hear at games:

"You're as cold as ice!!!"

My high school played this song (Tear it up, by DMX) during football games, and still does, and it always gets the crowd/players hyped up. I'll post more later.

Also, think Jock Jams, Bayou Classic, crazy high school football fever drumline energy. ala DCI Blue Devils, Basel Tatoo, Manhattan street corner kids, etc...drumline needs to be playing funky drumbeats as loudly and as frequently as possible.

During timeouts play Outkast, James Brown, KG's Brickhouse before and after freethrows, or bad shots. And maybe something like "wipeout", to get all the bluehairs moving too.

And dude, I go to a lot of games, so if I hear any of my suggestions played at a future game I will be very enthused to say the least. Honestly, this is what Band Dierctors need to do, get input from the fans and players.

I love it when guests Carolyn Wonderland and Gary Clark, Jr. play!!!
Featured trombone, trumpet, etc. like last night are very cool.
As one poster noted... percussion/ drum beats always get crowds moving.
"Tear it Up" is always good.
Sometimes the goofiest, dorkiest things get the crowd involved...YMCA, James Brown I Feel Good, etc.
Love that the director is seeking input - surely every Ozoner out there can come up with tons of suggestions. I also like the idea of larger number of band members present at some games.

How about not playing when the crowd is getting a "TEXAS FIGHT!" going? The band does this at both BBall and Football games, and it has always really annoyed me. The spontaneous, non-cheerleader led, chants can be some of the best.
