so I bought the Rogaine

Please let us know how it goes Will. My hair is still around, but I've got that little McDonalds logo slowly working up my forehead. I've heard men are recommended to use a product before the hairs decide to bail.

On a side note- we all lose hundreds and hundreds of hairs every month, most of which regrow. But, do you guys ever notice when you get an itch on the scalp, itch it, and it is one of your hairs that has a little crud at the bottom? If my research is correct, that poor old fellow ain't regrowing.

this has come up time and again on here and some people think it's ridiculous to resist, but i've used propecia for a long time now and it's definitely worked. i started noticing that my fair was thinning rather quickly in my late 20's. i was at the doctor for something entirely different but figured i'd ask about the propecia. i had thought i wouldn't bother but the doctor pretty much convinced me that it works and there shouldn't be any side effects. sure enough, the thinner spots filled in a bit and the hairline too. whenever i've quit taking it there is a noticeable difference and i'll start up again.

Rogaine isn't supposed to work on the frontal part, only the crown.
I'm 36 and have moved to the head shave. My wife says it isn't necessary, but I have a small bald spot in the front right at my part and I think it looks bad.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy about it, but it is much easier to deal with.
good luck.

Wow Doc, that's interesting.

Hat: I heard the same about Rogaine buy my dermatologist said no, it works fine for the front, which is my problem. He also wrote a RX for propecia, but I haven't filled it yet, as I was recently laid-off from my job and I'm too cheap right now to do so.

Will, to save $ your might ask your Doc for a script for generic Proscar (finasteride). That comes in 5 mg doses, but a pill-cutter can be used to get 4 pieces out of a single tablet, essentially 1 - 1.25 mg each. Propecia is simply a brand-name "modification" of Proscar, from 5 mg to 1 mg...but there is no generic Propecia yet...that is, no generic finasteride at 1 mg, just the 5 mg.

Hmmmm.

So it's safe to assume that the precise dose isn't that critical?

The savings aspect is quite attractive.

Will: Clinical studies have shown that as far as hair-growth/inhibition of hair loss go, the 1 mg dose is as effective as the 5 mg dose. The 5 mg dose is meant for prostatic enlargement. With a sharp pill-cutter you won't be able to get exactly four 1.25 mg tablets out of a single 5 mg finasteride tab, but you will be close enough, and over the course of 4 days you will get essentially 5 mg of finasteride instead of 4 as you would with a prescription for Propecia. At Costco, 30 tablets of generic finasteride 5 mg (= 120 pill-cut 1.25 mg doses) will set you back 26 bucks...essentially 4 & 1/2 bucks per month for a 4 month supply. Make the leap!

it worked for me. back in my single-ish days i used rogaine and propecia both. my hair was still thin, but much thicker than what it would have been without the two.

then i met my wife and stopped giving a damn about my hairline.

No offense Joe, but with that attitude you will give a damn again someday -the wolf is always at the door, brother....
