Snakes and mothballs

As I was coming home yesterday, my neighbor's AC unit kicks in and 2 brown snakes emerge from underneath and go into my lawn and into a hole that sits right next to the sidewalk. I put 2 mothballs down in the hole. Will this kill them? if not, will they just leave that hole and make a new one nearby? thanks in advance

Why would you worry about two little old brown snakes? They aren't hurting anything are they?

Moth balls make em crazy, and they start biting everyone in sight.

Moth balls have been known to turn brown snakes into King Cobras...you're as good as dead.

You are right in that snakes can't stand the smell of them and should relocate.

Are the others kidding about the snakes going crazy and turning into Cobra's? If not, I cannot handle that. I will make sure not to put mothballs out to keep snakes away, not that I have a problem w/ this living in the middle of Austin. But still.
