Snake in Hotel Cottage Room.

"This is not good for business..."
I won't argue with that statement.
Where was that lovely vacation spot?
I did see four green mambas on Saturday, btw.
...went to the San Antonio zoo.

Useless without pictures.

There is a youtube link..oh hell, I will just post it. I will never swim in Mozambique.

Part of me wanted that Mamba to climb up that stick and fang her/them. Hey, let's poke at the Mamba. Leave it alone and call a pro to remove it somewhere safe where it can live away from humans or something.

If you don't die you sort of wish you would, from what I have read and seen on the tele. The damage done is scarring and permanent so you don't get away from a bite unscathed. I too thought they looked sort of reckless. Maybe they have done it enough that they were sore of lax?

I had a long running debate about with a college friend (usually after numerous beers) about what the most "bad-***" snake in the world was. He always argued the King Cobra but I never backed down on the Black Mamba

You were correct. A Cobra will try to get away more often and not feel cornered as fast. It is also not as fast and agile as a Mamba. While both venoms are toxic and even fatal, the Mamba is feared by all. It is the black death.

I don't want to be near either one.

The Inland Taipan or Fierce Snake in Australia is the most deadly but does not come in contact with humans very often and that is even a stretch. It is way out in the Outback.

I remember watching some specials on the Golden Lancehead but that is in a secluded area of Costa Rica or an island if I recall correctly. You don't want anything to do with that one either.

I have chills.

Vietnam had Cobras and Bamboo Vipers (among many others). That's one of the big reasons I went to flight school. (Although I did wind up with a Bamboo Viper on my helicopter once...it's a war story for another day).

I have to ask and I think I want to know but I am not **** sure positive but were you already in the chopper or in the air or did you notice it during a pre-trip? I prefer the second answer.

In my search for info on your Bamboo Viper I found this excellent page and story. I did not yet click on the music but will do so later. This dude dodged some snake bites for sure. I would have made poopy in my pants.

i saw this entire show on pbs the other day. these people run a hotel in south africa. Seven years ago, her daughter did a project on snakes and the mother started working with them. She is now a mamba expert. She travels miles and miles each day to find black mambas that have been spotted. She catches them and releases them in a nearby reserve. She's saved hundreds of them. She captured 3 or 4 others on the day that she caught the one in the first clip. She's actually implanting transmitters in some mambas and tracking their movement patterns. Not much is known about their behavior..

It showed a family who's 14 year old daughter was killed recently by a black mamba. No one from the village would go anywhere near the field where she was bit. This lady went to the field and retrieved the girl's sandals for the mother. Very emotional moment.

This lady and her husband, who wouldn't help his wife until recently because he's so scared of snakes, are doing great things for mambas. Very interesting documentary. And while they look lax in their approach, they really know what they are doing.

Thank you for that tidbit. I will find and watch that show. It sounds fascinating. Yeah, you could tell they know what they are doing but I guess it just looked sloppy to us who are untrained. I guess close calls or near misses will always be the norm in that activity. Mamba's, like any snake are needed for the ecosystem and its balance.

I don't see myself purposely sleeping a night in a place with Mamba's around.

Maybe the woman needs an assistant to help attach the transmitters to the mambas, loopy. Could be like a paid vacation for you.

Lucky for the snake Bear Grylss wasn't around..He would have killed it with a rock and had dinner.

Good story Shark..I'm a country boy, who is not afraid to admit, I'm scared as hell of snakes..

The worst part is that he is laying on the floor looking under the bed with a flashlight. What if that f'n snake had dashed out at his face right then. I would have **** twice and then jumped on top of the woman to save myself.

Yes, that! That part skeeves me out. Not just from the bed but what if he just comes out of anywhere? He could come from any direction or part of the headboard and this dude is laying prone on the ground.

La-la-la, there is a Black Mamba in this room somewhere and I am going to lay down and lift the blankets of the bed so I can poke my flashlight around there, la-la-la.

Not.
